The progression of Ryan Tannehill has been wonderful to watch for those who look deeper. In the last two seasons, his deep ball has become one of the league’s best, so it should be no surprise he’s become a downfield master under Adam Gase. With better defined routes, Tannehill’s accuracy soared. His overall accuracy of 64.1% was 4th in 2016, and his accuracy on throws of 20+ was 61.0%, The 2nd highest (only behind Derek Carr).
Despite suffering from some receiver drops, Tannehill’s accuracy and placement were astonishingly good. We’re talking throws that rival the ones Aaron Rodgers makes on a daily basis!
Ryan Tannehill is a really good quarterback, and though his deep passing lacks quantity, it easily makes up for it in quality. Dolphins fans should be highly pleased with the results their quarterback is producing, and in 2016 his downfield passing was one of the year’s absolute best.

Second in the league in completion % on throws 20+ yards.

From the eye test I would have thought the same but it's nice to see tangible results supporting that. Thx. I think Tannehill has developed under Gase and I expect more growth this year as well.

@SonsOfShula has just posted some impressive charts in another thread which corroborates this in spades

Word. If this needs to be merged that's cool. I checked to see if it had been posted, didn't see anything.

I encourage anyone reading this to click on the link to check out some awesome GIFs :D

I didn't think this was still a debate really. He improved in this area every year and now he's good at it.

it was always a weak stance for anyone who debated his deep ball as a weakness

Nice find, thanks.
This is nice.....

I posted this in a flimsy thread questioning Tannehill, but this one is more appropriate for it. Thanks for the article, finfanaz.

Tannehill's a very good (not great) QB who can make all the throws. Personally, I love everything about him.

Balls deep....

He improved drastically with the deep ball last year. He hit some big ones with Parker and Stills. And remember the deep throw in a tight window to Gray?

If he didn't get hurt he makes the Pro Bowl over Alex Smith last season.
