Elway won when they got a great RB called T.Davis. Peyton has been robbed of more championships because of a pathetic defense, if he wins this year it should cement him into alltime greatness because his defense is still rather weak.

More teams win because of a balance in offense and defense, rarely ever do you see teams with no defense win or no offense win a championship. There have been plenty of dominating defenses win but they've had pretty good offenses to boot. We're on the right track but we need to improve both sides of the ball to truely compete year in and year out.

Yeah but Manning also has an offense that can score fast!! Which gives his defense games that can be more predictable if colts have the lead.

As for Denver they were pretty decent on both sides more than Miami had when we still had Dan running the show. Which is why Dan should get more props for keeping his team going.

they all won because they had a defense that kept them in the game, this allowed the offense to win the game. we dont need a Colt or Saint offense to be successful in the league. i think the combination of either a top offense and good defense or a good offense and top defense will get us the ring we so badly want. were not that far away

Wrong. We need defense and offense. You're not going to just have a great offense or just have a great defense and win anything. However, it's quite obvious our defenseis behind our offense, and this draft just happens to be stacked with defensive talent while having a very weak WR corp.

If you followed the Dolphins over the last decade then you would be aware we had some pretty good defenses, but not much offense. The result...

2006; 5th in points allowed; 6-10 record; 4th in division (missed playoffs)
2003; 3rd in points allowed; 10-6 record; 2nd in division (missed playoffs)
2002; 4th in points allowed; 9-7 record; 2nd in division (missed playoffs)
2000; 3rd in points allowed; 11-5 record; 1st in division (beat Colts in WC game, lost to Raiders 27-0 next round)

Perhaps we should focus on building BOTH offense and defense.

i believe defense is #1 priority in the draft. at least for the 1st and 2nd rounds if mclain is there at 12 we have to take him. if a stud te or wr fall to us in the third then yes offense. our d has more holes than the o

i think you guys misunderstood a bit. i agree that we need balance between offense and defense. i just think people put too much into having a bunch of pro bowlers on our team. we dont need to have the Colts offense or the Ravens defense, but a nice balance of run/pass/defense/special teams. i have always had the belief that a good defense beats a good offense

Uh, no. It's only a passing league because good QBs play-action the **** out of our dudes. If we don't fix that, all the offense in the world won't matter.

offense has the three most important positions QB, left tackle, and a dominate WR. But forever and always a good defense is what makes a team win. I honestly believe that you do not have to have the best structured, skillful, or fastest players. A balance defense can win any game as long as they are the most intelligent, that play with all their heart, and don't rely on a single player.

Its amazing how quickly people forget what happened last season. Look who won the Superbowl last year...the Pittsburgh Steelers. Their defense was top 2 in every category last season. Their offense? 17th in passing and a staggering 23rd in rushing.

The Ravens also had very similar stats and made it too the AFC Championship game.

The whole dynamic of what makes a winning team doesn't change in the space of one season. The thing about this season was that their was no dominant defense around, apart from argubly the Jets who made it to a Championship game. The Giants, Steelers, Ravens, Titans, Eagles all lost key personel (be it coaching or players) to injury, FA, etc, which affected their overall performance. This thus allowed the high powered passing teams to take advantage and thus dominate.

It's absolutely 100% a pass happy league these days. The NFL has changed over the past couple of years. It's all about racking up big yardage plays thru the air and scoring quickly.

Two things:

1. Name one bad team in the NFL with a good to great QB.
2. Name one bad team with a great running back.

Teams with great quarterbacks are winning and winning big. Teams with great running backs can still be AWFUL football teams or circling in mediocrity this past season. Think Steven Jackson and Chris Johnson.
