One of the late, fast-risers in this year's draft class is Tennessee DE Robert Ayers. He's one of the potential targets that Boomer mentioned in his excellent Draft Blog in the Sentinel.

Here's a nice compilation of Ayers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAR9Qb3liRs

I wouldn't be opposed to him in the first round or especially at pick 44.

ive been mentioning him for weeks now at 25 spot.

I'm not quite sold on him that high yet. He's got the size and the apparent athleticism to play SOLB for us. However, he's a mixed bag in terms of production; he was an underachiever for three years. He also has some injury history and was arrested. Conversely, he's apparently "changed" and was a team captain - something Ireland loves.

I'll still wait and see how he works out at the conversion drills in Indy before I'm ready to take a chance on "potential" at 25 overall. At that spot, I want a sure thing for my money. At 44, then you've got a little bit more leeway.

you konw what i dont understand? how so many of these athletes just can't stay away from trouble and being arrested. it really amazes me.

Often times it seems it's either alcholol (Plaxico Burress, every Bengals arrest in the past 3 years, etc.) or they can't seem to leave their entourage behind.

My brother plays for an NAIA (which believe it or not, gets a healthy amount of Division I players, who've usually flunked out or gotten kicked out) school and was telling me about one of the kids on his team getting kicked off for possession of marijuana and trespassing while he was at a party back home near Cincinnati. This party included the likes of UC defensive tackle Terrill Byrd, former Ohio State safety Eugene Clifford and another Buckeye player, and the kid from my brothers team going back to a relatively bad part of Cincinnati two weeks before the season started. All of them were from the same high school and it just goes to show that no matter who you go leave home and play for, those groups of friends can always come back to bite you.

Ayers has the look. He would be a strong possibility at #44- if he lasts that long.

ayers @#44 = value
ayers @#25 = a bit of a reach...maybe the combine will prove me wrong, as players will see their stock drop and ayers' might sore

i wouldnt mind him with 44, i think he would be a great pick, but i think English would be a better version of the similar thing at 25

Ayers is a first rounder but I don't like him as an OLB necessarily. His best position is going to be DE and he'll be a very good one.

i don't know... roth's role seems destined for a guy like Ayers...

first rounder ? i wouldn't bet against it, the combine will have a an effect on his stock, but right now i have him between 30 and 40
