This article pretty well sums up the "problem" of Trent Green: his age.
If I was a Miami fan, I'd be upset that my team used a draft pick, even if only a fifth rounder, on a soon-to-be 37-year-old QB who looked awful last season after coming back from a serious head injury.
If the Fins could get him for nothing, which seems to have been likely if the Miami FO had more patience, that would be fine. With the Miami OL a big ?, an old, non-mobile QB isn't likely to light up the AFC. Three step drops to avoid sacks gets 10-15 yard completions, not 65 yard TDs.
With the trade, I think the Fins have put themselves in a lose-lose situation.
If Green starts/plays in enough games, the fifth draft choice escalates to a 4th rounder, but at the end of the season, the Fins now have an even older QB, and haven't seen enough of Lemon or Beck to decide if either one is "the answer" (or even a reasonable facsimile). On the other hand, a fourth round draft pick can develop into a good lineman or ST player who could play for the Fins for years.
If Green fails to start/play in enough games, then he's either hurt or stinks, and the Fins would have given up a fifth rounder for nothing!
What's the point of this story? Green is almost 37 and that is old in football terms? He had a bad concussion last year and injuries are bad?
He is here because he knows the offense and can bring some stability to an offense that desperately needs it. He helps with the transition to a new offensive system and can help show the new guy how to prepare and learn and be ready under this system. He also helps the WR's and the RB's because he knows the system now. He is not here because Miami feels they can win it all this year and time is running out. Miami is and has been rebuilding. They have turned alot of this roster over and have a good mix now of young and old. I think it was a great move to get him and you still have Cleo as the backup who also knows the system very well so Beck can sit back this year and learn. Who cares about the C-Pep situation. It affects zip on the field. So the media says it makes them look bad - to who? Miami fans - NO!! He did zip here and got paid well - they should be able to try and get something from him - that is their right and he is under a contract he signed. Let's all move forward with Cam and his system. Remember Green has been targeted for a long time so Cam and Randy obviously have their guy they believe can help this team make the transition.

It could be worse. We could be entering the season with Losman as our QB. Ouch! This article pretty well sums up the "problem" of Trent Green: his age.
