Forecasting Green’s Frustration

What's the point of this story? Green is almost 37 and that is old in football terms? He had a bad concussion last year and injuries are bad?

He is here because he knows the offense and can bring some stability to an offense that desperately needs it. He helps with the transition to a new offensive system and can help show the new guy how to prepare and learn and be ready under this system. He also helps the WR's and the RB's because he knows the system now. He is not here because Miami feels they can win it all this year and time is running out. Miami is and has been rebuilding. They have turned alot of this roster over and have a good mix now of young and old. I think it was a great move to get him and you still have Cleo as the backup who also knows the system very well so Beck can sit back this year and learn. Who cares about the C-Pep situation. It affects zip on the field. So the media says it makes them look bad - to who? Miami fans - NO!! He did zip here and got paid well - they should be able to try and get something from him - that is their right and he is under a contract he signed. Let's all move forward with Cam and his system. Remember Green has been targeted for a long time so Cam and Randy obviously have their guy they believe can help this team make the transition.

OUCH! Not the most optomistic point of view on Green here.
Let's hope he beats the odds and is one of the exceptions to the 37 year old decline the author points out.

This article pretty well sums up the "problem" of Trent Green: his age.

If I was a Miami fan, I'd be upset that my team used a draft pick, even if only a fifth rounder, on a soon-to-be 37-year-old QB who looked awful last season after coming back from a serious head injury.

If the Fins could get him for nothing, which seems to have been likely if the Miami FO had more patience, that would be fine. With the Miami OL a big ?, an old, non-mobile QB isn't likely to light up the AFC. Three step drops to avoid sacks gets 10-15 yard completions, not 65 yard TDs.

With the trade, I think the Fins have put themselves in a lose-lose situation.
If Green starts/plays in enough games, the fifth draft choice escalates to a 4th rounder, but at the end of the season, the Fins now have an even older QB, and haven't seen enough of Lemon or Beck to decide if either one is "the answer" (or even a reasonable facsimile). On the other hand, a fourth round draft pick can develop into a good lineman or ST player who could play for the Fins for years.

If Green fails to start/play in enough games, then he's either hurt or stinks, and the Fins would have given up a fifth rounder for nothing!

Not to bash my team but I kinda agree with you. I never wanted Green but we have him now and I hope he pans out. Atleast we didnt waste a 2nd on him like we usually do for a QB.

This is Cam's guy all the way. Mueller just got him what he wanted.

Yeah....what he said....I agree whole-heartedly !!

There is no denying that in general QB's around his age normally see a decline. Yes, Green looked awful last year, but his lack of production had more to do with a change in offense than a decline in ability. From what I hear, he was looking fresh and mobile in TC. Also, he will be back in the type of offense he knows and runs so well. He will also have some good talent at WR, which he only has had average talent at best before now. The only question I have is how the OL will play this year. I really feel Cam and Houck are going to do a great job putting the line together and making it gel.

It could be worse. We could be entering the season with Losman as our QB. Ouch!

I get so tired of the bias of the NFL and the media. Everyone is scared to death to say that Favre is too old to play and that we won't do well this year despite sucking the last two years. Favre does not having any injuries to blame for his performance. Meanwhile, Green had a severe concusion last year which the doctors have cleared him from and you get this pathetic article. Look at the age comparison:
10/10/1969 Favre
7/09/1970 Green
But the media won't write the same article about Favre.

If you were a Phins fan you would be happy that your team picked up a pro bowl QB who has thrown for over 4k yards in a season 3 times and has a 61% career completion %. He also already knows the system he is walking into very well as well as the coaching staff. A 5th or a 4th for a starting QB is not bad - especially if he gives us 2 years before Beck is ready.

As for the 10-15 yard passes - that is why we have the Ginn's and Campbell's - to break those the distance. Cam is doing this right - they do not want Beck playing this year ideally. His focus is to learn and get ready for the future. Green is not causing him to lose anything - he was not brought in to start this year!

Actually - unless I missed 1st grade - every team will have a QB next year that will be even older than this year. Your point? Green is here to let this team be competitive NOW and allow Beck to be groomed for the future. Whether that future is 1 or 2 years depends on how well Green and Miami plays.

If JP Losman was my team's QB - the last thing I would be doing is bashing ANY other team's QB situation. C'mon OperaMan - give me a break!!!

What these idoits dont understand is that we dont have to have a Qb in here that is going to win the game for us. We really dont need a star QB to have a good team this year. We need a QB that isn't going to lose it for us. We need a QB that isn't going to give us a 3 and out everytime we step on the field, or worse yet a turnover. Green doesn't have to come in here and put up Peyton Manning numbers, he just has to put up some good numbers and score enough points that our defense can win us the game. I think he can still do that at the age of 37, he can also bring along Beck so that next year we can start worring about getting QB that can win us the game.

Everybody will hate the Green trade until Green and the Dolphins win some games. Then everybody will say what a brilliant move it was to acquire Green. If they don't win games everybody can say, "See I told you it was a bone-headed move." Either way, none of these arguments mean a thing until the season gets going. I can hardly wait because I am one who believes Green will win us a few games, and, as pointed out earlier in this thread, he will allow our defense to shine by not repeatedly putting us in bad situations.

first of all he is a very young 36 years old,,his body composition is fantastic,,pure fast twitch fiber....he will play effectively for two years than Mr. beck will be ready to go with a mind full of valuble knowledge given to him by Mr. green.
