Yea were going to be bad this year. My outlook of 7-9 I am really debating if they'll even do that well. I am slipping to maybe 5-11. But as well noted in some of the other posters we have a lot of bad trades and descisions that were made by previous Coach and Pres. and let's not forget where it all started Jimmy Johnson from the ousting of Dan Marino to the hiring and eventual handoff to Wanny. So JJ deserves a good bit of the blame here if not most of it. Let's face it JJ hired him and if I'm not mistaking he groomed him for the head coach and convinced management he was fit to takeover after he destroyed this team and quit on us. Yes it'll take time and good drafting and FA pickups. I'll be surprised to get anywhere near a SB in 3 years. We need CB's and a QB to start. You have to wonder in 3 years will the Zach's and Jason's still be at the top of their game so we will need to address players like that. This will be a long process. There is a lot of fixing that needs to be done. i hope no bandaides are used. We need to build, build and build. Just as long as there is progress year to year and move in the right direction I'll be happy. I think you are looking at 5 years to win.

That's a little bit of a pessimistic view. I believe that with the right draft choices and FA pickups that we can once again contend in 3 years..... I have faith in Saban at this point that he will carefully build this team quickly.

That is why Feeley should be starting. If we need to build, then Gus isn't the answer. Not that he is either way. In threeto 5 years he will be 38 or so. We should find out if Feeley can do it now. Spending this season on the bench won't tell us anything.

Oh PLEASE don't turn this into ANOTHER Feeley/Gus thread.... I've had enough of those!

I agree with you I'm against Gus also and was an AJ fan. After looking at him play I just don't know if he has the tools. But your right play AJ untill you get a better young QB in here. You never know AJ can come around but, I have to admit it's a long shot

With good drafting, coaching and some good free agent decisions it does not take 5 years to turn a team into a contender in todays NFL.

I suspect this team will be much more competitive than you expect this year once the team gels, after another off-season of drafting, free agents etc etc.......this team should be a playoff team and contending no later than the third year after Saban assumed control.

Here's what I don't understand.

We were a ten win team the season before last. That season our line wasn't all that great and we had a better secondary.

Last season we were a four win team. That season our line was the worst ever and we had a better secondary.

This season, we have more talent on offense than I can remember, we have some of the best coordinators in the league. Our line will be better than last year. In fact the only place I believe we went backwards was the secondary, and that may even prove to be wrong by midseaon.

So where is the cause for all this doom & gloom? The only thing that really changed from the 2003 & 2004 season was the o-line. (Not Ricky, he wouldn't have any running room anywhere last year.) And that caused a 6-win difference. The line will be better this year, we've already seen shades of improvement.

Why then all these losing record predictions?

I am giving us 2 years for superbowl contention. And we will be a seriouss threat to every team we play. And to think we will only go 5-11 is insane we were 4-12 last year with no running game and a crappy offense. Are running game will be back this year with a nice offensive aerial attack. My prediction will be 10-6 at worst. I am being optimistic this year regardless who is at quarterback. I missed a whole year of football because I knew the season was over when Ricky retired and David Boston was injured in pre-season. This year we have more to look forward to.

It's not doom and gloom... its realism... read this post to give you an idea of where this team is conidering its talent depth....

Hope your right

Why then all these losing record predictions?

QB play, CB play, and overall depth. All teams have some injuries during the season, our win/losses will probably have a lot to do with who gets injured.

I'm not a doom and gloom person, but I do know enough that our depth is not very deep in talent.

We also might not have enough quality CBs on the team right now. Offenses can spread us out and look for the weak CB to throw at and beat... (remember Jamar Fletcher having this done to him)

I hear you, but what team doesn't have 10 to 12 guys who are potential cuts. I don't know, I think we have better talent and coaching than we did in 2003.

Why not expect an 8, 9 or even 10 win season?

Strength of schedule is overrated because of the 180s that teams have been doing in the league the past few years.

Maybe I'm stupid, but I just don't see where we are that bad off.

JJ was an arrogant prick that found out that he got more lucky than he was brilliant. He tried and tried to draft great and failed and failed. He took reaches and dropped out of a spot that would have brought Moss to Miami. Moss and Marino!!! Wow!!!!

He quit b/c he felt he had a legacy and did not want to be known as a guy who got lucky and the guy that brought Miami to it's knees. Instead he threw in his whipping boy for that!!!!! He knew to quit while he was ahead if he wanted any future in football, even as a BIG ROUND TALKING HEAD!!!! I respect what he says as much as Salisbury! Sean could have done better and that is not saying much.
