Forget Martin, CK just ended Ireland's career

The Dolphins' right now, both on and off the field, are an accurate reflection of how crap Ireland is at is job. His job is to bring winners to the Dolphins and at least go to the playoffs every year and eventually compete for championships. This season we should have been passing the Pats and winning the AFC EAST. How's that goal looking as far as attainability right now? Off the field we are the biggest punchline in the country. On the field we lost to the Bills at home. The BILLS-a team that should be in our rearview mirror. A team we should freaking route. BUT NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WE LOSE TO THEM AT HOME WITH A SCRUB QB. The height of an epic failure if there ever was one. Maybe we'll be the 0-8 Bucs, and maybe not. Our o-line was putrid before we lost 2 starters. What now? Clabo redux? Oh God, wake me up from this horse****! It would be safe to say THIS ISN'T WORKING AND A NEW GM COULD ONLY DO BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I appreciate the stats because they can be used to illustrate the argument but I didn't need anything but the eye test if the team looks like crap these last years than it is crap. He has done nothing but accumulate low end or middle rung players on this team.

I'm not defending Ireland. But, is should also be noted that:

1. Philbin's arrival fundamentally changed almost every offensive and defensive scheme on the team. That plays against players' strengths and an adjustment period is to be expected.

2. The Parcels era players are now veterans and expected to be he core of the team. The post-Parcells guys are less experienced in general.

While this sort of comparison shows a dramatic difference, it also should be viewed in light of the two points above.

As always, CK's analysis is superb, but everything needs to be taken in context.

I don't care if Ireland stays or goes honestly. But did CK write a bible that I don't know about? PLEASE. CK knows just as much as the rest of us. Quit worshiping his OPINION. You're grown men and it's disgusting

He knows a hell of a lot more than most of us. I don't know how many other posters here have been invited to NFL Network.

I fully agree with the sentiment, but Ive never taken PFF seriously and wont start now.

Im a pretty big fan of Patterson and Grimes, those were Ireland grabs. Also Cam Wake.

This is what should end Irelands career:

LT: suicidal flake
LG: A night out away from a jail cell
C: Hernendez connection
RG: Cheeseburger addict
RT: worst starting RT in the league

On top of that ZERO depth behind this slew of misfits.

God i thought it was going to be news, boy was i wrong..............

Couldn't have said it better myself!

CK's been trying to end Ireland's career since he got here.....yet here we are.

CK's statistics would be accurate. However, I still think that the Philbin coaching era operates on a different timeline to the Sparano era. By that I mean that Joe seems to prefer to have the rookies spend an extended period on the bench and deliberately bringing them along slower (with the exceptions of Tannehill, Martin, Vernon and Sturgis). It could be argued that Jonathan Martin should have spent more time observing from the bench to build his hunger to play the game. Note that this approach is analogous to what he and Sherman observed/initiated in Green Bay. In contrast, the Sparano era rookies were thrown in the deep end and if they survived, OK great, but if not, next.
There are pluses and minuses from the two different approaches. However, because many of Joe's rookies this year have had very limited playing time, eg Jordan, Taylor, Thomas, Davis, Jenkins, Sims, Gillislee and Jones, but that doesn't make them all busts. Last year we saw very little of Lamar Miller, but he is making a good contribution this year. Even Egnew who was written off as a bust by most, is beginning to make a contribution and looks a lot better for the future.
Personally, I am quite comfortable with the slower timeline. Good things sometimes take longer, eg Soliai, who would have been written off as a major bust after negligible playing time in his first two years. In this respect, don't be surprised if Ireland is given more benefit of the doubt, because Philbin appears more comfortable in taking some time to develop and teach. The other thing is that drafting a QB takes precedence to everything. In the calculation, Tannehill counts the same as Kheeston Randall, who was cut this year and the Michigan State WR who I have already forgotten, but couldn't make it through training camp. If we are honest, there is a huge difference in the potential contribution to the long term between a Tannehill selection in the first round and a Kheeston Randall in the sixth.
However, CK's analysis is very thought provoking - as usual. I miss his contribution to this website. He was the best. Ironically, if Ireland had sufficient intelligence, he should employ CK to do the detailed analysis and help the team from the inside.

In other words, lets give Ireland the benefit of the doubt for 5 more years, right?....lol
