Now before I get bashed too hard for this idea, Brees is a free agent and he isn't happy that his contract negotiations are going so slow, especially after a record setting season. So even if the Saints franchise tag him, I would gladly give that first round pick for one of the top 5 QB's if not top 3 quarterback in the league. And for the people saying he would never leave New Orleans, I'm sure every NFL player is watching how the Colts are treating one of the greatest players in the game. Now more than ever is it apparent that loyalty doesn't pay bills. Throw a ridiculous offer that he can't refuse and see if the Saints pony up to match it if not then sacrifice the pick. If they do match give them less cap space to re-sign Carl Nicks which could be an option at guard. Let the bashing commence!

It's not a bad idea at all, I'm totally for getting Drew Bree's as a top priority over Peyton Manning. I asked the same question but didn't get much feedback, it will be interesting to see what people think.

Why in the world would New Orleans give up their franchise QB and face of their team? The city of New Orleans would riot if they let him go. This is extremely unrealistic.

nobody gave you any feedback because there is less than 1/4 of 1 % chance that he doesnt' stay in NO... they want to keep him, he wants to stay... theres really nothing to add. nothing to even speculate about.

It's merely contractual posturing: if you thought the Superdome was trashed post-Katrina, just imagine what would happen if the team doesn't resign this very shaky city's most beloved personage.

Okay and everybody is set on Peyton Manning? With so many conflicting reports I'll stay by MY opinion that he should hang it up so these dolfans can stop saying "we are superbowl bond with Peyton!"

Yeah, there IS. Namely, "part B" (if you will) They pay BREES a King's ransom to defeat MIAMI, and have not enough left to defeat MIAMI as to NICKS even if they wanted to. I think that's the OP's point, and it would be a "win-win" for us.

part C.... (if you will)... brees doesn't need to break the bank. he wants to STAY in NO... I could easily see drew brees turn down an offer worth more $$$ to stay in NO...

Don't forget about the 4th option, Brees could just retire.
