I know brees would be a step up but I think Gus had a very good year for us considering the O line is still under construction. If I were Miami, I would strongly consider drafting a QB. Gus could go one more year and someone like Cutler would be a great understudy. With the money you save in the long run you can get even more great lineman.

To me nothing is more important than those 5 guys on the line. You can win with an average QB if you have a great line but not with an average line and a kick *** QB. Well, not usually anyway.

By the way new to the forum here. Good to meet you all.

I am starting to agree with the people who would rather draft a QB rather than pick up one of these VERY VERY high priced "veteran" guys via free agency or trade who have major injury concerns. I just think the guy I would like to see get drafted is differen't than most peoples as I would LOVE to see Miami get Omar Jacobs!!!

then what happens when Cutler sucks?? Not saying he will....but that's the risk you run in the whole draft a QB scenario....he may be Akili Smith. But we know what Drew Brees is.

thanks scuba steve first of all for the welcoming.

Yeah I mean I was big on Brees at first but now it just feels like even with paying him a little less than the saints it might tap them out.

Welcome, but you are wrong. You cant win consistently with an average QB (unless you have a defense like the 2000 Ravens) Any QB after Cutler, Young, and Leinart (who will all be gone before we pick) will be a project. Saban wants to win NOW. Brees is needed. And Gus is already on the bus outta here. Who in the world would fear the Dolphins with Frerotte at QB?

so far the only...

qb to be drafted in the 1st. rd. do something in the past ten years are limited.

Ok well I'm glad you mentioned that. Frerotte got the most production out of that offense that we'd seen in 5 years. I think he is much better than a lot of people give him credit for. Took the offense to 15th overall when I believe they were ranked in the high 20's for a long long time. With Shelton signing and the possibility of mawae coming to Miami I believe that Gus would be feared and this would be a playoff team.

The o-line was actually one of the best in the league at not allowing sacks. Frerotte's biggest problem is that his is very inconsistent with his accuracy. He misses wide open receivers way too often. It is tough to sustain drives when your QB barely completes 50% of his passes, and that has been Frerotte's downfall throughout his career.

you said it right on your titlle:

FORGET about Gus!

(unless you only are shooting for mediocrity)

Of course I am not goin for mediocrity. I want the dolphins to win and win now. This is just something to consider is all. Not a master plan by any means but to me not the worst solution.

I'm not defending Gus but some of his low completion rate was down to drops by his receivers and throwing the ball away to avoid bone head plays.

That being said there is still plenty of room for an upgrade.

First of all, Cutler probably won't be there at #16, so forget that idea. I think the best way to go about this is bring in Brees or Culpepper and then draft a guy in the 2nd or 3rd round, like Omar Jacobs, to groom under one of them.

Yeah would love to have Charles Woodson come to Miami as he is still out there but his price would probably be too high. Cornerback is a glaring need right now.
