Wow did anyone see this?

It was a piece about the concussion epidemic in the NFL. Man they showed Gene Atkins at the doctors office and he couldn't even recite a phone number that was just told to him or list the months of the year from January to August!

They talked about former Eagle, Andre Waters and how his brain was basically falling apart before he killed himself. A very interesting and very sad piece.

Gene Atkins : "Arrested for firebombing a former business associate but was later acquitted. Most recently he barricaded himself in his house after his wife called police claiming he had shoved her against a wall, choked her, bit her and then beat her with a remote control. Then, when told by police that he was under arrest, Atkins replied, "No I'm not" and punched the officer in the throat, then pushed him outside the home. Surprisingly the police didn't agree, re-entered the home, found Atkins holding four knives, and summarily dropped him with a 'hot shot' from a Taser gun."

I'd say that brain is pudding too.

Very sad.... Makes me wonder how much of this has been going on without it hitting the press.

So is Atkins implying he went berserk because of all the head trauma he endured as a player? It is an intersting "defense". If that's the case, Troy Aikman would be a homicidal maniac. He's had about 20 concussions and was forced to retire because of all his concussions I believe.

Yeah, He couldnt count down from 987_654 and he couldnt do the months of the year from Jan to June even with help from the doctor saying all the months for him...He just sat there and said may came after june and april came just before it...The doctor stated at 45 or something he is far past the beginning stages of alzheimers and in the beginning stage of dementia. It was one of the worst cases he has ever seen...And the NFL doctors kept saying how the alzheimers was not caused by head trauma by playing in the NFL, what a scumbag POS...Very sad piece.

I liked the piece and think there is something to it......BUT

In Gene Adkins particular case is it possible that

A) His claim is completely legit

B) That he was faking when asked about the months? He had no problem saying July after the Dr said June when he was asked what month came before. Its funny because Adkins said May when he was giving them in random order when asked to name the months from Jan to June in order. Its funny he didnt name any outside of those but gave a few in random order. Its funny when the Dr ran off Jan,Feb,March,April and then asked what comes before June and he said July after he had already said May earlier just not at the right time.

c) Maybe Gene Adkins never knew the order of the months before he even played football.
