Something that has given me confidence in our new head coach are the accounts from former players working under him. This article from kinyetta.com breaks quite a few down nicely...

Little sample...
“He’s able to connect and talk to guys,” Breida said. “He’s not yelling in your face. He’s talking to you like a grown man or your son. He’s got a lot of guys out there who want to do well and do well for him

Considering it has been reported that the relationship between Tua and Flores had turned toxic, with them getting into a shouting match during the Titans game. It should help Tua to have an offensive minded head coach who actually knows how to communicate without yelling when things don’t go his way.

If he can turn this offense into even just a top 15 offense his first year here, that’s a win in my book. If he backs his QB unlike the former coach who shall not be named, he will thrive.

Funny how all these players were coming out saying nice things about McDaniel to support him getting a job... How many players have done the same for Flo this hiring cycle?
I thought I saw a nice thing or two said by someone somewhere. Of course, in the aftermath of all the fires set by Flo, no one is saying anything.

I basically came into this thread, though, to say that I can't recall a past hire by this team that wasn't praised by previous players and bosses. Joe Philbin was very highly praised coming from Green Bay. I mean very, very highly praised. Of course, we know that Adam Gase came with a lot of praise--in fact, he is still being praised and may find a spot on Belichick's staff somewhere.

I think that praise in the NFL is just part of the cycle. Still, it's nice to see things being said about our head coach hire. I just hope that our new coach has the skills necessary to acquire the right help and give it a unified vision.

I mean DVP liked the instagram post showing he was fired...maybe thats support?

Anyways a couple people round here have said stupid **** like "look at the nerd", "Look at how this guy represents himself" "he doesnt trim his beard" "noone is going to respect this tiny hippy"

The thing is, you dont earn respect with how you look. Sure maybe you want him to look professional. I had my DVR set yesterday to record at 6 pm NFLN, but havent had a chance to watch yet to see how he looked. But the pics of him getting off the plain he didnt look like a unkempt hippie.

You gain respect from players with your actions. If his actions and words command respect, then you better believe that big ass Raekwon Davis is gonna try to rip someones head off for him, or Mike G try to stiff arm someone into next week. Hell maybe Jesie Davis might pancake someone other than Tua.

Im sure some of his guys probably joked with him how he looked some times, but that would be in playful banter while fully respecting and listening to the man

Not to knock Flores, but to my knowledge not a single player said anything when he was fired. I thought that was strange, considering the team finished 8-1.

There was no presser yesterday, no need to look up the DVR, it was a troll job.

LOL @ DVP comment. I get a good feeling about DVP's judgement with something like this, couldn't tell you why.

On the nerd comments, feel like i've seen more and louder rebuttals or complaints about said comments than actual negative comments about his appearance (light hearted jokes aside)...but I don't claim to have seen em all - just a general observation. Sometimes the backlash happens before the actual offense! But anyway, I totally agree with you, his actions, results, and treatment of players and staff will determine respect given, which by accounts like these means much respect apparently. I would think such references influenced us going after McD, and after the hiring, after some research, I'm glad we did go after him. By my previous requirements in a new HC, McD did not cut it due to no prior HC experience. Good thing no one important cares what I think! It appears we made a good choice at the moment.

I don’t put too much stock in this.

Literally, the playoffs were on the line and the offense was absolutely putrid in that game, including Tua. Not uncommon for a HC to give the “get your heads out of your a**” lecture under similar circumstances.

No doubt Flores is not a touchy-feely kind of coach, but that does not mean the relationship is toxic. Tua complimented Flores for his communication being direct, telling him what he needed to hear, not what he wanted to hear. Tua said that is what he grew up with.

Not saying it was a good relationship, just that using this particular rumor given the context as proof it was toxic doesn’t hold much weight as what the relationship was like.
