A former star athlete from West Charlotte High School and professional football player is facing a 36 year prison sentence.
North bounced from team to team, moving from the Raiders to the Chicago Bears and from NFL Europe to the Arena League Football. It was his time in-between as a wide receiver on the practice squad of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that has caused him the most attention. He was on the team when they beat the Oakland Raiders 48-21 in Super Bowl XXXVII in 2003.
After that career high, the FBI said North began his criminal low. They have charged him with conspiring with several others to pass counterfeit checks at Bank of America branches in Charlotte. Agents haven’t said how many checks or how much they were worth, but said they want his Super Bowl ring to pay back victims. The ring is valued at least $15,000.
