If Miami is going to turn its season around, the next four games at home gives them a chance. The Dolphins started the season with three games on the road against Seattle, New England and Cincinnati -- teams that could go deep into the playoffs. After playing Seattle close, Miami has played well in spurts but haven't put an entire game together yet.
Tennessee visits Miami followed by Pittsburgh, Buffalo and New York. To turn things around the team needs to find a semblance of a running game. Not only have the Dolphins not had a 100 yard rusher in the first four games, but no back has reached 100 yards yet in the season. That says a lot right there.
Certainly not trying to sugar coat anything. The numbers for Miami have been bad so far and it's hard to imagine the team finally finding a running attack or somehow improving on stopping the run. Big tests in the division will come against the Jets and the Bills two teams that will want to impose their will and run the ball down the Dolphins throats.
Overall, I can't help thinking this is a bigger re-build than many of us fans expected. The first four games have not been kind and have shown holes all over the roster. But, a lot of great coaches started with teams that needed virtually an entire overhaul. Bill Walsh and Jimmy Johnson come to mind as coaches who won only a few games in their first season. Tom Landry took seven years to field a winning team in Dallas, although he did start with an expansion team there.
So Gase still needs to find his way and put his stamp on this team. Let's see what the next four games bring.
