Fourth Marlins rookie with 10-win season

There's no arguing the Florida Marlins have plenty of good young pitching.
Anibal Sanchez became the fourth Marlins rookie to win at least 10 games and Hanley Ramirez hit two home runs, one inside the park, and the Marlins beat the Cincinnati Reds 7-2 on Wednesday night.

The Reds dropped 3½ games behind first-place St. Louis in the NL Central and had a three-game winning streak snapped. The Reds have one game left at Florida and three in Pittsburgh.

"If there was ever a 'must-win' situation, we have that for tomorrow," Reds shortstop Royce Clayton said. "We need a little help and we need to run the table."

The Marlins are the first team in major league history to have four rookie pitchers with 10 wins -- Sanchez (10-3), Scott Olsen (12-9), Josh Johnson (12-7) and Ricky Nolasco (11-10). Dontrelle Willis (12-12) gives the Marlins five 10-game winners for the first time in franchise history.

"It's hard to believe," Marlins manager Joe Girardi said. "No one has ever done it before and they have been playing baseball for a long time. It's amazing to be a part of."

Our pitching staff played better after the All Star break. Now they will play much better throughout the entire season next year, and our bullpen will be great as well with the return of Logan Kensing and Martinez.

Just goes to show u, even if management had atleast one other veteran starter in there we could have had one of these youngsters in the pen holding on to games for us . . . what could have been. Well hopeuflly we keep Girardi and give it a run next year with these kids.

First team ever with 4 rookies with 10 or more wins. And Sanchez had the best year of any of them. 10-3 with an ERA in the 2.80s...remove his one relief outing against the Red Sox in his second career game and that number dips into the 2.30s. No-hitter, a one-hitter, all sorts of different stats. He's going to be ridiculously good.

Willis (L), Johnson (R), Olsen (L), Anibal (R), and one of a million options both lefty and righty for that 5th spot. I think Nolasco gets traded for a center fielder this offseason, but there will be more on that later and that's just my opinion.

These guys are starters, not relievers. The purpose of this year was to develop talent, not to make the playoffs. It just so happened that the talent developed so quickly that making the playoffs became a possibility. But having them spend a year in the bullpen would only have held them back. Look at Papelbon in Boston. He had a spectacular year but wants to return to starting, so not only is he hurt from pitching more often than ever before, but he has to start from square one as a starter, getting his arm prepared to go distances instead of max effort like he is now used to.

These guys were used correctly this season, brought into the rotation at the right time, and none of them were abused, which means that we head into next season, barring any freak injuries, with a full, healthy staff going in. And that is the most important thing.

The Marlins are the one franchise that has it right. They didn't have the money to spend so they rebuit from the ground up and it's going to pay off in the future. It makes you laugh at teams like the Royals, Rockies, Nationals, and Pirates who all added vets to their teams this off-season and have absolutely nothing to show for it. You have to tip your cap to the Marlins for realizing where they were at and then making the best of a bad situation with great trades. The Marlins scouts deserve a ton of credit. Hell of a job by them!

Understandable, but when we were still in it around the All Star break and before the trading deadline, we should have made a move . . Period. Do u think the team is gonna say "Well we are in the run for the WC, but who cares, lets develop this pitching staff". I really hope not. If not a veteran starter, some bullpen help would have been nice . . . but something to show this town that winning is a priority, which it always should be until u are out of it. 15 million dollar roster . . . . no moves to help a TERRIBLE Middle Relief/Setup Guy . . . I mean there are fans still down here, even if Loria wants to move his team, its still the Florida Marlins . . .he could act he cares for us just once in a while. Then he gets in it with Girardi, geez man, this guy really is like the owner from the movie "Major League", like he wants the team to fail so he can move it or sumthin.

Back on topic, its an outstanding accomplishment to have 4 rookies with 10+ wins, and 5 starters with 10+ wins. We always have had a knack for developing GREAT starting pitching down here.
