Fox Sports rips Fins Fans

Miami seems to have the same problem as LA did before their teams ( Rams/Raiders) moved away. Transplants from everywhere (most don't speak English or care for American football), great weather ( other options of activities on a nice Sunday) and a fan base like me.. hell most of uson this board are from out of state. I flew out from SoCal to watch the Halloween game, but unless everyone else did, we're not going to see sellouts. That being said, a consistently winning franchise (Miami Heat, LA Lakers) will bring people back.

National people don't understand the war of attrition going on with the Dolphins an their fan base over the last decade... After that 4 game losing streak, I don't blame anyone for not showing up, especially on Halloween. I blamed them after 3-0, but not now...

Of course they understand. They're just looking for clicks. This happens in every city where there are bad to mediocre teams for a good length of time. Jacksonville, Cleveland, etc. People love to say this doesn't happen in X city when the numbers show otherwise. It just sounds good to win their argument.

article speaks about the lack of Fans in the stadium. It was pathetic. I know it's easy for me to say but when I lived in south Florida I had season tickets and still go to 2-3 games a year even living in central Florida. You move that stadium to West Palm it's a sell out every night. That miami fan base is embarressing. I say the same thing every game. I was at the Baltimore game and it seemed like half the stadium were Ravens Fans. Last night the entire club level and 75% of the upper level was empty. And this was Prime Time game! You south Florida fans really need to start supporting this team.

Sounds like Fox Sports is a whole lot more honest than Fox News.

FWIW, this is the definition of "fair weather fandom". I don't remember Fenway Park ever being as empty as Miami's stadium even when the team was absolutely horrible.

Yeah, apples to oranges. Maybe you could compare the two if we were talking about the Orange Bowl, and even then the comparison would be shaky at best. Fenway is an institution. When I go to Boston next year, I fully plan on going to a Red Sox game just to check it out, and I generally have zero interest in baseball. Can't say I'd ever be inclined to do the same with Pro Player Stadium (honestly, I've heard non-super fans call it this recently) when visiting Miami if I weren't a huge Dolphins fan. Add in the fact that you have season tickets that have been passed down for generations, which is something that certainly couldn't have been done in Miami, but that would require understanding the historical demographics of each area, which is apparently asking too much of people. These are just two of the many problems with people comparing their local team's attendance (especially non-football) to the Phins'. Again, apples to oranges.

The solution? Win. Simple as that.

excuses excuses. miami fans in miami just do not understand the long term of this team right now. Its just looking for a reason to not show up. its sad. really sad. Buffalo or Cleveland does not have this problem as much as Miami does. face the facts. People in Miami are disgruntled people looking for an excuse.

A city the size of Miami can't fill a 65,000 seat stadium? Really?!

I've been talking about it for a while. Frankly, when you look at the numbers and then go to the stadium, you see the problem. There are very few loyal fans.

Stadium attendance is a numbers game played by TV stations and owners. Anyone that lives near a team understands how teams hide ticket sales or pump up attendance figures to keep the dreaded "blackout" label from being put on a game.

You can always gauge ACTUAL attendance of a game in the beginning of the 4th quarter. That's when you look at the seats to see the real story.

FINatic054, I was at the Baltimore game, as well. It was embarrassing when the Ravens' fans would cheer. Then when you would scour the seats to locate them, you'd realize just how many empty seats there were. It felt like a neutral field game.

When teams have to blow up sales and lie about attendance, then have more empty seats in the 4th than reflected in their "attendance" number... you have fair weather fans.

I read an article many, many years ago about the impact of NFL merchandising on attendance. Soaring prices and the media mogul that is the NFL Shield has priced the game out of the reach of it's most beloved fans. The fact is, most fans don't want to pay $25 for parking, $50 ~ $75 for food and a couple hundred dollars for tickets to take their family to the game. Not too mention fighting with the kids about not buying overpriced memorabilia and merchandise to commemorate the event.

Frankly, go to an NFL event is no longer a family event. It's slowly become something the fanatical fan does with his buddy once in a while in celebration of their fanmanship. It's not a true friend or family experience like college football or baseball has become.

NFL friends celebrate at their homes with NFL Ticket or at a sports bar. It's not a right of passage journey anymore. It's a financially exclusive club that relegates the average working fan to his man cave yelling at the TV while texting his friends "did you see that bad call?!".

The NFL has maximized it's profit while minimizing the experience.

In that case, so is not going to EVERY home game despite living in another state. Wah wah wah, I don't have the money, etc. Excuses! Get your ass to the game!

there were empty seats, fans left early, and there were a lot of Buffalo fans in Florida. Lets face it, Florida is not like most states. There are a lot of imports from other states living there.
