2008 Franchise and Transition Tags

Teams can use a franchise tag for one player and a transition tag for another player. So you can tag up to two of your players, but it can only be one of each. When franchising a player, he is not officially apart of the team until 24 hours after free agency has started. In those 24 hours, teams can give a player a higher offer and you have the choice of matching or taking the compensation (two first round selections). When placing the transition tag on a player, teams can bid on him within the 24 hour time period, but do not have to give up any type of compensation whatsoever if the other team choses not to match. These are the salaries for the franchise and transition tags:

Quarterbacks
Franchise tender: $10.7M
Transition tender: $9.6M

Running Backs
Franchise tender: $6.5M
Transition tender: $5.7M

interesting ... i didn't realize safeties made so little

A question about the Franchise tag..what if the other team doesnt have two first rounders? Does that mean they can't sign a franchised player?

Gratize.

Either both teams can agree to equal compensation or that team must find another first round selection to give up.

And how do I declare a player as tagged? I assume I just list him under my free agent list.

Just list them as tagged, but usually you don't have to do it until Free Agency starts, because of the 24 hour rule.
