I'm sure all of us Canes fans can remember how awful it was seeing what Gore went through in his early years with the Canes and how a guy who looked like the next big star RB at the U may never play again, let alone go on to star in the NFL and do it for a decade plus.

Gore Injury History.jpg

If I am Ryan Tannehill I'd be picking Gore's brain about anything he does to keep his knees strong and how to protect them on the field as much as possible. I mean surely Gore had some sort of miracle cure given to him for him to ever come back from that early start and still be able to walk without a limp let alone FINALLY get to come home and play for the Phins.

This is something I didn't really consider at the time I saw gore's signing officially announced

Maybe just me being hopeful and maybe Gore is some sort of meta-human but you never know. Maybe he has some sort of special training program, some type of knee brace, some type of bayou witch who put a spell on his knees to keep them healthy. How else can you justify this freak of a human being still doing what he does at this age.

It was horrible seeing him go down, I remember Willis McGahee a certain top 5 pick before his injury declaring for the draft because he knew Frank Gore was simply more talented. I remember the talk of James, Portis, McGahee, all trailing Gore in natural ability. He had a really good career but cane fans will always wonder what could have been before those knee injuries. If I remember correctly he avg'd over 9 yards per carry his freshman year.

At 34 and after 3,226 runs, there would have been an awful lot of wear on those knees even if they had never been injured

I think Gore for one year is totally fine. He really wants to be here and I believe he will help our offense as he can run, catch and block. He's also on a cheap deal and will bring leadership which the team really needs.

Ozzy rules!!

I think that's correct. My God we were spoiled at RB. Not even OK State with Thurman Thomas and Barry Sanders were as deep with talent as we were.

In the long run for Gore it was probably better to have the two ACL reconstructions than the one catastrophic tear that McGahee had. I still marvel at the fact that both had length careers in the NFL, even longer than Portis I think.

If memory serves, the 2001 Canes backfield was Clinton Portis, Willis McGahee, Frank Gore, and Najeh Davenport.

That's just ******* insane.

And don't forget Walter Payton son Jarrett who was also on the team. Actually in 2002 he had almost 1,000 yards rushing for us.
Not the profile of those other names but he did play in the league a few years I believe.

Yep. And that's just the RB.

Let's not forget that the receivers included Andre Johnson, Jeremy Shockey, Kellen Winslow Jr. and Roscoe Parrish.

And Ed Reed and Vince Wilfork and holy freaking crap.

What's the record for NFL Hall of Famers from one college team? Because I can think of good arguments for at least four people from that team.

And who knows what Sean Taylor could have done?

Sapp, Jim Kelly, etc. Mark Walton is a U of M back who got hurt in his Senior year. The kid is great. It was a different offense, a different team without him. He's going to drop due to injury but he's another in a line of superior talents from the U.

Im not sure Walton belongs with the legendary U backs

Agree. i would put him with the Miller's and Duke Johnsons. Those others were great in college and also great in the big show.
