Free agency and the Draft: How to repair the Dolphins' weaknesses...

Let him run the draft if he stays, just please God take away his checkbook. Do NOT let him pay for free agents, that I have no doubt he will mess up.

when we get into this offseason and people see our situation i have the feeling some opinions on jeff ireland will change.

we are 20 mil under the 2014 cap but the reason is all these guys are free agents.

starks
soliai
grimes
incognito
keller
clabo
clemons
mckinnie
jerry
carroll

also vernon and clay are scheduled to make 760k and 670k respectively. their agents will probably have other ideas.

lousy drafts and bad FA contracts catch up with you folks and we're about to get a first hand look.

IMO we have his replacement already on the roster. His last name is Jenkins. Jenkins is younger, faster, and can cover on passing downs a whole lot better.

We need LB's that can both cover and stop the run....CJ Mosley would be great.

ONE, Incognito is gone for good. TWO: Keller is not going to be brought back. Clabo? LMAO! McKinnie? See Clabo. Only one of Starks and Soliai will be brought back (probably and should be Soliai). As for Vernon and Clay, well....are they gonna just quit? Because, as far as I know, they are still under contract for next season. We should have that leverage. There is also lots of contracts to restructure. The one who worries me most is someone you don't mention: Cam Wake. We have to lock him up. But Wallace should restructure because of his huge cap hit. We lose Starks. There are more... bottom line: I would be surprised to see Miami $35-$40 mill under the salary cap. There are moves to be made. It's 2015 that we need to be concerned about. But NOT next season.

Those are the only ones we should absolutely resign. The others would be for vet mins

Lastly, we need to acquire a hard nosed back that can get those tough yards. We do not have one on our roster. Lamar Miller is dangerous in space, but is not a back who his going to lower his head and get that tough 1-3 yards you need in a crucial situation. DT is too slow to attack the LOS. So it's very important that we address this issue as well. There aren't any FA running backs that fit this bill.

How about Ben Tate?

One of those lets put as many names down to exaggerate my point without thinking.

Honestly I think we should go get Branden Albert and Carl Nicks (if healthy) sures up the left side leaving more than likely 2 OL picks which i can deal with and draft the rest on spots that we need like RB.

I look at that list and I see one guy I'd really hate to see get away: Grimes.

All the others at this point are just other guys. OK, maybe not so much Starks and Soliai, but I think a lot of our fanbase looks at their play from 2-3 years ago as opposed to this year, and, IMO, their play has dropped off considerably. I don't think either will be worth it to Miami compared to what they'll be asking, and some desperate franchise would overpay for them. Plus, neither of them was a high draft pick for Miami; just goes to prove you can find replacements without burning two high picks or killing your cap.

Keller, if he can play, probably can be brought back for a reasonable price, and the same can be said for Clemons. There's no crime in letting any or all of the others go.

I honestly wouldn't be opposed to drafting a DT that can push the pocket with the first pick and then looking multiple OL, LB, RB, S after that. A DT who can rush the passer like Starks and Soliai did in the past and have done on occasion this year is a big advantage ... just look at how Kyle Williams wrecked our offense yesterday.

I think you can get solid linemen in the middle rounds and even get a young guy or two there through free agency. Not sure how much value there's be picking an OL in the lower teens/upper 20s in the first round ... might not be much of a dropoff looking there later, especially if you can get a disruptive DT or playmaking, versatile LB in the first round.
