Free Agency Breaking News- NFL - Breaking News Thread 2025 Offseason

You really think nfl teams think like that? lol

They were just signing a guy they wanted before someone else came along and signed him

Gm’s aren’t tracking where a free agent comes from, how many players left them and who they signed while factoring in aav to see what comp pick they might receive….
Like there was a danger of somebody stealing him. They agreed to a deal. All they had to do was delay putting the paperwork into the league for a few hours. They gave us a pick and pushed their own picks down a spot.

I'm sure it was a mistake, they didn't realize the implications

Chubb has 2 pro bowls that he deserved. Chubb and Phillips if healthy this year will be terrors like they were when they both played together. Watch those games.
Being a Pro Bowler and being an All-Pro aren’t the same thing. However, that’s not to say Chubb isn’t a great player.

I fear Phillips won’t ever be healthy enough for long enough to be reliable

What are the implications? So they pick below Grier now, what are the chances Grier picks the same player that the Jaguars want in a supplemental round. It’s more likely, Grier will pick a player that’s valued in the 5th with that supplemental pick!! 😂

Still think a Tyreek Hill for George Pickens trade might work for all parties. Steelers get a big time weapon to team with their other offseason addition, DK Metcalf. Would be the most dangerous duo in the league.

Dolphins get the younger talent, more in line with Tua and Waddle. Lose speed, but gain a another bigger target with a big catch radius. Miami's wr corp would be Waddle, Pickens, Malik Washington, Westbrook-Ikina and two others from the pool of Eskridge, Ezukanma, Tahj Washington, Armstrong, Wease and Baldwin.

I'm all for keeping Hill, but if Miami does trade him I would prefer a move like this more than one for a draft pick. Also, if Pickens leaves as a free agent down the line, the comp pick might be greater than the pick you would have got from trading Hill.

You want to get rid of the better player with less issues in the locker room…because of age?

I’d be good with getting rid of Reek and the headache. But Pickens is even bigger headache because it’s an issue in the locker room. And he’s not as good of a receiver

The rookie contract scale took all the assignment out of rookie hold outs. Like I need Jamarcus Russell 2.0, someone that will hold out into the regular season and then turn into a complete bust.

Probably would of been Shadeur

Maybe there’s a measure of professional courtesy there. If the Jags had nothing to gain from waiting until after the deadline and it’s not a division rival you’re inadvertently helping out, why not just let this one go? Half the teams in the league are in your same conference and eventually you’re going to play every other team. These are still GMs who wheel and deal with each other in the offseason so why not just get the signing done and possibly help a long term offseason transactional relationship?

Ok. Of all the previous replies, this one I can buy. Thanks.

Maybe he said Sign me now or I’m gonna listen to Miamis offer after the draft. The Jags new Miami wasn’t going to do business before the draft so just go sign the guy

Let's be honest, there are going to be a set number of comp picks each year... if the Dolphins don't get a certain pick, then another team will. It isn't like the Jags thought, "Gee... if we wait 24 hours, there'll be one less draft pick this year". ...and is Miami the team the Jags are worried about? No.

For this conversation to make any sense at all, you'd have to provide the alternative. Which team would have gotten that comp pick if we didn't.

Anyone know?

I seriously doubt it.
