OMG we haven't overpaid for tainted products...a 35 yrold QB with spinal issues, a backup QB with 7th round credentials, fire our GM immediately!

All you have to do is look to this past offseason to see how free agency does not a super bowl contender make. Everybody had Philly as their early season Super Bowl favorites after a bunch of huge signings, where'd that get them? Playoffs? nope

What about the annual free agency champion Washington Redskins? How's free agency doing for them?

Then let's look at the past 3 super bowl champs. Giants, Packers, and Steelers.

When's the last time the Pack or Steelers have signed a big free agent?

Building a contender starts with the draft, and despite the whiners on this board who think a draft class is a failure if you don't hit 100% truth is, strong draft classes are more in the 20-40% range. What can really hurt you is if you whiff on your first round picks. Fact is, before Ireland got here we drafted like ****, since he's been here we haven't whiffed on one first round pick, and we've discovered several late round gems. Problem is, because of our fluky playoff run we had pressure to become a contender quicker which led to a ton of free agents coming in, and this was not under ireland's full control. I believe Ireland gets that if you get a free agent it must be at the right price, otherwise draft a player.

With only 4 years of drafting we have a solid core, and now he can move on to more difference makers in the draft to come. Since he has been rebuilding for several ill fated regimes in the past it is going to take a while to fully rebuild through the draft, but it is the best and only way to do it.

Ryan Clark is not a good barometer for the rest of the NFL, and also fact is, it doesn't matter what free agents think, they always go for the money, all else equal they go for the better team. If we build through the draft we will eventually be a better team and will be in a better cap position.

This vitriol for Ireland is totally misplaced and out of control.

We need organizational consistency to pull ourselves from out of this rut, not more turnover. Because with this kind of bafoonish reaction by fans no good GM will want to come here either.

Let's take a step back, and look on this situation with some long term perspective and not project your anger for 15 some odd years of bad personnel moves on the only GM we've had in that time to actually draft well.

I believe we said this what 5 years ago when Parcells came in. Stay the course and it will take more than 1-2 seasons. Look at us now.

Yeah it is..that's what most think, but when those players don't pan out (orton) you don't hear anything...let's have the draft and training camp first at least -____-

I'd rather get an A on draft day and an F on free agency than get an A in free agency and F on the draft.

Exactly, look at us, more talented than we were, not to mention Parcells stunted the growth. Since he's been gone Jeff has done well drafting on his own. Biggest draft bust of the regime, Pat White, was well documented to be a Parcells pick, because he fit Parcells' QB criteria

. We we aren't exactly winning 1 and 4 games either....do you feel the need to blow up the team like then? We are goin in the right direction geez..

We've been saying this garbage since 2000.

You can say that, but the fact is they haven't done it since 2000, they've just continued the regime carosel that put us in this mess, and continued to bring in overpriced FA, and waste picks on bad QBs like Harrington

Thank you for this post!!! Finally someone talking some sense around here :thanks:

For the people who think FIRE EVERYONE NOW is the solution, I figured I'd up this

This is the equivalent of asking someone to make a good tasting complex roast, or chili...then firing them because you want to taste the chili before its done.

What you would then be advocating is buying a canned chili you can microwave. Then you'd complain about how ****ty it tastes. So the cycle would start over.

Dude! Seriously I want what your smoking. This team is not headed in the right direction. Bad decisions for 10+ years! Saban, Cameron over Tomlin. DC over Brees. Long over Ryan...

hmm 7-9.7-9 6-10 thats the right direction. Then we lose langford to free agency and trade our pro bowl receiver.
We cut Carey and Bell.Jason Taylor retired. How are we a better team than even last year at this juncture. we have replaced them with Artis Hicks , Jereome westerman and Richard marshall. Marshall is a good player at safety but as a starting corner is not even an improvement over Smith.

Now After chasing option a,b,c we have signed option f at qb to compete for starting job.

Yep. We've been building "Rome" for the last 12+ years, and all I see around me is South Dakota.

building through the draft is a great idea when the people building your team aren't asking prospects if his mom is a whore...
