Gase and Joseph again talked about defensive players either making mistakes in their assignments or freelancing too much and hanging teammates out to dry. I remember when Coyle mentioned his last year. At the time, I believed Coyle was making excuses for misusing the talent he had in an inflexible scheme.

I still believe we needed a fresh start from Coyle, but maybe the freelancers are a bigger problem than we realize. Especially if those players are high-priced, influential players in the lockerroom.

Who are we talking about?? SUH?? I can't believe the gapping holes on the defensive line? IF they are double teaming Suh where the heck are the other players? Is Suh free-lancing himself out of the play? Heck Phillips should be able to crash into the line and take another 1-2 players out. That should leave the DE's one-on-one with the Tackles and our linebackers should be plugging the holes? I just don't get it.

That's the curious part for me. Who are the coaches talking about? Suh seems to be getting doubled on many snaps, and maybe he's trying to work around the double instead of maintaining his gap assignment. Mario Williams maybe?

Reshad Jones has a reputation for freelancing. I think the linebackers and safeties are more of an issue inthis area than the d-line. Free lancing is usually a problem with a unit on the team that needs a little something extra to keep up with the opponent because of the fear that if they play it straight up as called they're going to lose the battle.

It doesn't matter who it is, you sit him on the bench until he gets with the program.

As someone who once had a reputation for freelancing, I can tell you the worst thing that can happen for a defender is to freelance and be correct a lot. You start feeling like "Yes I freelanced but it worked so it's no big deal." The problem is you can be right four out of five times and that one time can kill a defense. It also becomes a problem when multiple players start freelancing and your defense starts to look like a cluster @#$#.

Let's see if Joseph has enough respect early on from the players to get them to buy in.

When you watch Suh eat two lineman then two linebackers fill the same gap looking for the individual tackle and individual merit and the play busts for 20 yards and gets the offense out a hole instead of keeping it at a 2 yard gain. That is a problem. It has been one with these linebackers since last year. You have the best dt in the game making life easy. Do your damn job!

Something I'll never understand. How can Suh get double team on just about every play and our LBs still can't make plays?

Because they suck... Jenkins is killing us man I hope Hewitt starts Thursday

WARNING! Analogy Ahead!
If someone told you that their kids were really bad, wouldn't you look at them and secretly think: "You're probably not parenting your children correctly." ?

To me, it sounds like the coaches are telling you that they aren't doing a good enough job of enforcing their rules with the players or are otherwise failing to get the players to "buy-in" to their systems. A player can't freelance from the bench.
