Frerotte a mistake!

I really think we should see how Feely does. I know he stunk it up last year, but I cant think of too many who wouldnt have with our line and our RB play. I know Im probably wrong, but who knows? I promise I love the dolphins as much as anyone on this site, but he might come in with confidence and the confidence of his receivers and light it up this year. Mcmichael, Chambers, Booker, and hopefully Boston in my opinion is a pretty solid receiving corp. I know that most will probably disagree, but if we all agreed on the same thing life would be so boring. I have confidence that Houck will get our line solid also which would give Feely added confidence. Our line has sucked for a few years now. I was at the fins game vs Indy 2 years ago when Griese fumbled the ball after Dwight Freeney made our LT look stupid. I have confidence in the orginization to make the right moves to get back to at least respectibility this year. Im not one for trying to hate bringing in certain players. I pull for the name on the front of the jersey not the back. I admit the only time I had a problem rooting for an individual on our team was thurman thomas. He killed us when he was playing for the bills, and then killed us when he played for us. I believe the bills payed him X amount of $ to hinder us.Just kidding.

I haven't said this before and it is going a bit off topic, but I just have to let this out finally...

I LOVE ALEX SMITH AT THE #2 I haven't been one of those "pushers" for a certain player at #2, but I gotta finally say that what I see in this kid looks fantastic (and is just echo'd in that paragraph a couple posts back).

Alex Smith has size!! Alex Smith is athletic as heck, he's got speed/agility/quickness but is still a pocket passer. Smith has very nice footwork and ball control. Smith has a great release and great accuracy. His arm strength is probably average...but isn't average what most starting QB's have?? You can't tell me his arm isn't as strong as Tom Brady's or even Joe Montana's...and they got it done. Most of all....Alex Smith IS A TOP NOTCH SCHOLAR. Seriously, if it weren't for football this would be one of those guys you see with phenomenal grades getting a fantastic job right out of college. Finally, throw in Linehan and the connection and I would be happy as a pig in sh1t if we grabbed Smith. I think he'd be our new franchise QB for a long period, starting out by being AJ's backup for at least 1 year.

QB is a question for us at #2....but I think we need to look at the BPA, and if Alex Smith is there I believe it needs to be the choice for our future.

“You evaluate drafts two or three years out,†said a Western region scout. “With that thinking, Alex Smith is the best quarterback in the draft. He’ll grow into his body. He is thin-hipped right now. But he’s tall enough, and he’ll be big enough. He’s a really good athlete. He’s a much better runner than the other two (juniors).

“Alex Smith can really run. Not just average. He can run. He had a 55-yard run. I thought he handed the ball off on one tape. I had to rewind it, and it was Smith. He’s going to test out of this world. Right now, he’s 6-3½, but he has to grow into the body. He has the build to be 225 or more. And that’s fine.â€Â

One general manager who has seen each junior play said Rogers could be the first pick in the draft. Size  he might measure under 6-foot-2  could be a liability to evaluators.

“If you rate them as athletes, it goes Smith, Rogers and Leinart,†he said. “Mentally, rate them Leinart, Rogers and Smith. That’s kind of a readiness-to-play scale too. We don’t doubt (Smith) will be the best 3-4 years down the road.

“Rogers has the best arm of the three. I’d say Smith is two, Leinart is three. I’m not knocking Leinart for that. He likes to step into it; he’s good enough for the league. But he throws a touch pass too much, likes to drop in on the target. That makes you believe he might not have the strength, but he does.â€Â

One scout who said he has seen Leinart play more than 10 times believes Leinart’s long, exaggerated release will keep him out of the first half of the first round.

“It doesn’t get out fast enough, not foa West Coast offense,†he said. “The three-step-and-out is a problem. Can you fix that? I think so, but he’s had it forever.â€Â
Nice reponse, i'll have to agree to disagree. :)

I hear what you saying and have to respectfully disagree.

We need a veteran backup...which Frerotte is and McMahon isn't.

AJ is the undisputed starter, we dont need to create a controversy by having two young(ish) guys with unfulfilled potential.

We then draft a young QB - McPherson, Campbell, Orton, Greene - to groom for the time being.

:yeahthat:

everybody can run the system efficiently in minnesota with them recievers this is miami...we dont have randy moss to throw it too ok!

believe me mcmahon is the better choice

What in god's name makes people think McMahon is a good choice for us? Just because he runs fast? Big deal. A backup QB should be one that can take the place of your starter and at least hold his ground for a few games. McMahon isn't that player. You need someone that can throw the ball.

So when AJ starts saying he can't figure out the system and throws int's like last year, what will the excuse be???

So Aj was the problem last year, not the system. I guess that's why our entire coaching staff is gone , and he is still here. You"ll see a different qb this year. We have the weapons but our coaching staff last year couldn't find away to get these guys open .

im with the original thread id rather have mcmahon, but frerotte is being brought here to teach our young QBs the new system and nothing more!

How about Kelly Holcomb as a backup?

He is in talks to stay in Clev, Jets are reportedly interested as well.

IMO....Saban is not just going to hand the keys to Feeley and say it's all yours.... no matter what is said in the papers.....Ferotte will create some urgency.... no free rides on a Saban team.... and if Feeley falters at least the rest of the offensive development won't suffer, Ferotte will step in and run the system.

And what makes McMahon a sure thing.... what separates him from Feeley really... yeah... that would be nothing....

You go to camp with Feeley.... McMahon..... and a rookie.... you have lost the veterans before the first snap has been taken on both sides of the ball... bad message

Every QB Looks good in minnesota with them WR's

Randall Cunningham [was a running qb til he came here]
Jeff George [retired always sucked til he came here]
Daunte Culpepper [starter for the vikings]
Todd Bouman [3rd string qb for the saints now]
Gus Frerotte [sucked as a starter in cincy]

Also Gus is over 30 so he wouldnt be an ideal starter only a backup at best and not even that good witht he recievers here...dont get me wrong our recievers are good but there non of them carry the last name Moss!

I think Mike Mcmahon would be the better choice if we were to pick up backup qb...cause hes only like 25 and he could still develop into a great qb and hes as fast as aaron brooks running the ball

I agree, unless a Qb is taken with the 2nd pick. Here's why if Aj falters and is playing terrible after the first 4 games next season, I think he'll be benched, and Frerotte would not be elevated to the starting QB but the QB who is taken in the draft would be elevated and Feeley would be the 3rd string QB. Now if McMahon were brought in I don't think Feeley would be the undisputed starter, and I don't think anybody should be named an "undisputed starter" on a 4-12 team but a young QB like McMahon beating out Feeley is a much better situation than a 34 year old Gus beating out Feeley.

You got it. Frerrotte is coming in here as the vet to help AJ as well as push AJ. If AJ struggles, does not show comprehension of teh system, the comfort level he should, the improved ability of recognizing schemes, and finding the open receiver, the improved ability of looking off defennders, which are all part of the next logical steps in development, Frerrotte is a competent starter to play until the developmental guy is ready/brought in.
