Frerotte overall has not been good statistically and was knocked out of two games on the current win streak that we were losing In. When you bring up other players they selectively tear apart any other option no matter the circumstance. You bring up Sage they say he sucked against Cleveland but ignore comebacks against Bills and Jets. You bring up Rivers and they say Rivers just got sacked in endzone in awful weather against the Broncos like it would never happen to Gus against the Jets. You bring up his rating and they say he has developed chemistry to the tune of 51% completion ratio.

Then they talk about Qb play last year on a team that lost its best player and had a whole new oline. I wonder how great Frerotte would be on last year's team. If mistake free Fielder struggle Im sure Gus would have struggled mightily.

I for one hope that Frerotte is nothing more than our backup next year.

This is a ridiculous strawman. I'm not what you would call a "Frerotte fan" though I did think he was the best option we had this year, and I for one have never ruled out Sage as a potential option for the future or ragged on him, or Philip Rivers. Why not single out the individuals responsible.

Well this might not include you since you are not a Frerotte fan as you say. I think earlier in year he might have been best option but Rosenfels should get more play especially against New England but of course he will only play if we are behind or Gus gets knockd out a third time then we get to hear that Sage played against a prevent defense.

Anyone hoping for Frerotte to be our starter next year should classify themselves as a Frerotte fan.

better get used to the idea of ferrotte being back for another season or two even if we draft a qb.

I don't think anybody on this board would prefer Frerotte to be the starter unless there's no other option.

And keep in mind we're talking BETTER options, not just OTHER options. I seem to remember an epidemic amongst many Dolphins fans in the Jay Fiedler days where the fans who hated Jay seemed to think anybody whose name WASN'T Jay Fiedler was the savior for the team. I laughed at the Ray Lucas fans (much much later--it definitely wasn't funny at the time) when Lucas looked absolutely horrible when he came in to play.

But when we got Frerotte, my reaction was "good. He's not a great QB, but he'll be able to get the ball downfield, he's worked under Linehan before, and he'll be a decent starter for this year for the right price".

exactly! I'm pretty sure management knows hes not the long term solution. I think they want to keep him untill they find the right qb for the team.

Ray Lucas is a far cry from a good option compared to the options discussed, I mean he was cut by the Jets and not because of salary considerations. There are 40 better options than Frerotte next year at least. Anyone that thought Lucas was a better option was reaching badly. There is a big differance between Lucas and the players being brought up to replace Frerotte. Hell some people think Mcnair is a lateral move lol.

No some people just realize there isnt anything better out there thats reasonable to get except maybe Mcnair

If we can win 9 games with him this year, and we get better we can win 11 next year

Why would it be so hard to upgrade the QB position? Unless we don't try to upgrade then it would be hard. If there are over 20 better Qb's starting then we should have no problem upgrading the 30th ranked NFL QB.

I could see him back, as a backup. You can't say that he's going to be back as the starter for sure. Frerotte is not the future of this franchise so to assume that Frerotte will be back starting "for another season or two" is presumptious at best. Especially if Frerotte comes back and wants to be paid like a starter (even though he doesn't always play like one).

Look , I think we all agree that Forrot , I mean Fergot , Fragglerock, Freeotter ...whoever is not a long term answer. He's done OK , even in the games where we were behind and Sage Rosenplants , Pels , Pez ..that other guy came in and one , won the game. Both have helped with the growth of Chambliss , er Chambly in making him an a Pro Bowler.

- I don't see him coming back as I think Rosenkrantz will be a certafiable backup.

Through Free Agency there really isnt anyone

Kitna = Frerrote
Mcnair > Frerrorte but no-one here seems to want him anyway
Josh McCown Is to unproven and risky
I dont wanna trade a first for rivers who is unproven
Matt Schaub other than 1 great game vs NE has very poor NFL stats

and I dont want a rookie starting

Im all for upgrading it but I also dont wanna take a step back

Well Frerotte is the 30th ranked Qb unlike Kitna when he was a starter the year Palmer sat. I don't think a rookie will play that much worse than Frerotte has. He is less than special or average. Any rookie we draft will be unproven, less proven than Rivers who started 51 games in college. I assure you McCown would be no worse than Frerote.
