Does anyone think Saban made a mistake in letting Frerotte go. Say everything being equal, had we kept Frerotte on board backing up Daunte, not sign Harrington hence we have our 5th-and Frerotte is a much better QB than Harrington, and we wouldnt be in this great trade debacle with Green. We could have Frerotte starting and grooming a rookie QB. I think that would have been a better situation than we have right now. I know it doesnt matter at this point, just fun to talk about...

Not really because he was not worth the money he was scheduled to make, the entire NFL knew Frerotte was not starting material and even when released there was not hot demand for him. His man love Linehan made him his backup.

Here is my thought on Ferrotte...He played very well for us and for the most part played pretty smart...But the reason Saban let him walk is because he thought he should be the starting QB. Saban realized in order for us to get to the next level an average to alittle bit about average QB was not going to get it done. He told Ferrotte that there was going to be competition and he didnt like that so we let him walk...Overall I see the logic behind it...Ferrotte is never going to be a SuperBowl winning QB and that is the ultimate goal.

Saban's mistake was trading for Culpepper in the first place, which was a classic "win now" move that blew up in his face big time, especially when he could have signed Brees as a FA. Frerotte was a FA and chose to go elsewhere rather than play second fiddle to Culpepper. Saban gave up 3 draft picks for QBs, and the Fins' QB situation is probably more muddled now than it ever has been, even going back to its expansion days (I think the Fins might have gotten Bob Griese in its first or second draft).

no. he cost too much and he wasnt that good. i thought fiedler was better. harrington had potential to be better, but he got ruined by detroit. just like what will happen with quinn if he goes there

I guess Harrington and Frerotte both have about the same talent level, but Harrington could scramble better and Ferotte had a much better deep ball

Taking CPep and not Brees was the mistake.

I think Frerotte was and still is worthless. Not as worthless as A.J. Feeley but still, he sucks.

What makes this fun to talk about? Frerotte is not a good QB. End of discussion.

As much as I hate Saban I don't think it was his fault in the C-pep signing. Everyone knows he liked Brees better, but he had to trust the medical staff. It's their friggn' fault. They shouldn't have jobs anymore.

yeah man, based on performance, absolutely. And for those who say he wasn't worth the money, he was cheaper than joey harrington...
