We all know Burke needs to go. I wonder if next offseason if it could be feasible to make this change? This merely a fun thread to spitball ideas.

I’ve always preferred the 34 for some reason. Not that a 43 can’t work well, but we already need to replace so many pieces... Shake it up!

Wake is washed up- to take from another thread

Robert Quinn could be one and done- to take from another thread

Andre Branch is a jag. And not a very good one.

Those 3 take up a huge amount of our cap, Branch is almost a surefire cut.

Could Harris play a stand up, rush lb? Probably not is my guess, maybe he can be traded for a future pick

Maybe Woodard could play some DE in a 34. Malveaux is a body at this point.

The DTs- godchaux and Taylor- could they work as our starting defensive ends? Then our main need is just acquiring a nose tackle

The linebackers.... how would they shake out? Kiko is probably going to stay, looks to be earning his contract more. Could baker and McMillan play as the MLBs? Or one of them outside? Where do you slide in Kiko?

Obviously yes we need more talent everywhere on the front 7, but what do you guys think?

We don't have enough good front 7 players to do either basic scheme very well.

Where the hell you gonna get 4 decent LBs in one year to swap to a 3-4, we can't even fill 3.
We don’t have enough good players in the front seven is right. And our “best ones” are fading and/or ineffective / too pricey. Blow it up

Some of our rising guys are the young DTs, I was curious if anyone thought they could play DE. Maybe McMillan in a 34 thumper role could help hide his range.

We can't have consistent play out of 3 linebackers. 4 makes no sense. Not to mention you have to have a dominant DT that can plug the middle. We can't do that with 2.

Our dominant defense of the late 90s early 00s was a 4-3. It started going downhill when we decided to jump on the 3-4 trend. We haven't been the same since.

At this point, the defense is obviously broken and needs to be fixed.

There is some talent there. I think the secondary has a chance to be good with Howard and Fitzpatrick. That said, Miami doesn't have anyone that an offense needs to game plan for. There isn't anyone who is particularly good in run defense either. Perhaps a 3-4 would better fit the personnel. Something needs to be done. Maybe a 4-2-5 with McDonald getting more time on the field.

When the season is over, it's clear the Dolphins need a defensive end who can set the edge. I think the entire defensive line needs help, but that would be a good starting point.

we do not have the right personnel to do this. we lack a pass rush and that's due to injury. people fail to realize how much of an impact all of our injuries have had on this team. especially dline and oline

man I think less McDonald is better, the guy has been horrible this year.

As has been mentioned. we don't have the personnel to effectively run a 3-4.
You need at least ONE effective "two-gap" player, preferably on the nose, and we have no one to be that anchor.
Add in our lack of LBs, and it's not feasible.
With our current players, switching to a 3-4 would REALLY open the flood gates for opposing running games.

Side Note: Did anyone notice Crennels defensive alignments that had ZERO down linemen? All defenders standing up on the line like LBs?
This is no crap, when he was coaching little league football, he ran that defense a lot. Many moons ago!

Hate the 3-4. It doesn’t work in today’s NFL.
I agree. To run a 3-4 successfully, you need a huge, immovable nose that eats 2-3 offensive linemen on every play. Otherwise, a good offense will just run it down your throat inside all day. Also the speed, and coverage skills required by today's linebackers don't allow for larger LBs, on wich the 3-4 relies.

Soooooo, the upside is you can hide the "limited range" of your MIKE?

Honestly, if that's the big issue here, I would just as soon find another MIKE

Did anyone notice Woodard getting abused on Thursday night? He got pancaked repeatedly. It was embarrassing.

Actually, we had a pretty good 3-4 while Saban was here. It really went downhill when Bowles left. Everything else I agree 100%
