Here is my list of players who I predict will be included in the first cut, I know it is early but I would like to look back at this list the day before first cuts.

Brock Berlin (numbers game) (PS)
Gerald Riggs (PS)
Darian Barnes (numbers game)
Jamal Broussard
Chris Davis
Frank Murphy (non-eligible for PS)
Jason Willis
Devin Aromashadu (sorry guys) (PS)
Teyo Johnson (he looked awful against Jacksonville, non-eligilble for PS)
Keith Heinrich (non-eligible for PS)
Emanuel Akah
Orrin Thompson
CJ Brooks
Tony Pape (tough cut) (PS)
Ben Isohla
Steve Fifita
Howard Green
Josh Shaw (non eligible for PS)
Matt Sinclair
Travis Harris
Art Thomas
Chris Thompson (non-eligible for PS)
Norman Lejeune (non eligible for PS)
Sideeq Shabazz (non eligible for PS)
Ola Kimrin (non eligible for PS)
Thomas Olmsted
Sam McGrew
Shyronda Mitchell (PS)

That actually leaves us with 64 players. Here are the following 20 players I have trying to avoid those final 11 cuts. All non-metioned players are locks in my mind ex: Culpepper, Ronnie

Travis Minor (non-eligible for PS)
Kay Jay Harris
Marcus Vick
Kelly Campbell (non-eligible for PS)
Cliff Russel (non-eligible for PS)
Fred Gibson
Jason Rader
Mike Pearson (non-eligible for PS)
Wade Smith (non-eligible for PS)
Kevin Vickerson
(Rest of players non-eligible)
Anthony Alabi
Joe Berger
Jeff Zgonina
Manuel Wright (likely placed on Non Football List)
Derrick Pope (shocked if he gest cut)
Keith Newman
Eddie Jackson
Michael Lehan
Deke Cooper

I disagree for the following reasons.

Darian Barnes: He's just too good and blowing open holes in the D.

Devin Aromashodu: Well... he's fast and has loads of potential. It's just to much of a risk to waive him. He'll attract too much attention.

Emanuel Akah/C.J. Brooks: If they get cut, it'll be within the final cuts. With Berger being moved to center, we really need to evaluate guard depth.

Ben Ishola: I think we need one more OE/LB behind Taylor and Bowens.

I guess you consider Shirondoya Mitchell (sp?) a lock to make the team? A lot of people were calling for his head after the Jax game.
If it's an oversight, that might have implication for the 'numbers game' cuts you mentioned above.

Also, how does practice squad eligibility factor into this (if at all)? As I understand it, only guys who have never made an NFL roster are eligible for the PS (like Vickerson for example)

I actually forgot Mitchell and Mike Labinjo origninally. I subsequently have added Mitchell to the first cuts, but Have Labinjo staying alive to fight Keith Newman for the final LB spot. I have also added notes next to players I think could land on the practice squad.

This is why i disagree with some of these cuts........
Gerald Riggs might get cut eventually, but i dont think it will be on the first cut. He played fairly well and its not like we have much depth at rb to begin with.

Devin really wasnt given a chance to do anything in the first preseason game. I think Saban is mixing the back up receivers in different situations, which means Devon is gonna get more chances against Tampa.

Kay Jay played well against Jax and who is gonna be our 3rd rb.

Marcus was very much involved in the offense and seemed to perform well. I actually think hes gonna make the team.

I think Saban has invested to much time in Manny to just cut him.

Vickerson is a nut from what I hear, but has tons of potential.
(Saban isn't gonna just cut his draft picks)

Derrick Pope has played well and has a chance to contribute to the team.

Eddie Jackson was the best cornerback on the field for the fins against Jax
(granted Travis Daniels didnt play). And depth may contribute to this as well.

I generally agree with the first round of cuts with the possible exception of Aromashadu. He didn't show much against Jax, but Saban may give him another week (from the first cut to the second cut) to prove that he can make the roster.

The second round of cuts is going to be really tough. I agree with an earlier post about Manny Wright being cut. I think he would go on IR-Non-football related list before cutting him outright.

All of our NFL Europe players are exempt from the roster limit until the final cut. Therefore, we only have to get to about 75 with the first cut.

I dont know if you read correctly, but it does not list the players above as being cut. It list them as not gurantees to make the roster. I understand your points about the players you talked about, but I wasnt about to cut them anyway. If I had to argue with anything, it would be that I disagree that Gerald Riggs looked good. I thought he looked average, and Kay Jay Harris looked alot better than him.

I understand that, but then why keep certain players if they have no chance of making the roster. Shadeeq Shabazz has little chance at making this team. Now, would you keep him just because you can even though you will be letting go guys who are better than him at that first cut. I figure a couple of exempt players will last, but I see no reason to keep all of them because I dont see any of them making the final roster.

Keith Newman played vs. Jacksonville in that role instead of Ishola. He can also play strongside linebacker and backed off the LOS.

I dont see Jack Hunt hanging around that long.

why do you think mike pearson will get cut
with the jags before he was injured fred taylor averaged atleast .6 more ypc then after he was injured
in his rookie season he let up the team low 2 sacks
ive liked this guy from the start and it will be a mistake to let him go

I think the the first round of cuts(down to 64)is Sun/Mon after the third week preseason game( aug 27 or 28). final 53 comes about a week later.
