Alright guys,
I can't speak for Peyton, or for his medical team...but, I have had cervical fusion surgery, and thought that some of the Manning fans out there could use some perspective on this. About 3 years ago, the discs on my neck were severely screwed. This (maybe) from intense physical activity. I was used to the 25-mile runs through forest trails... Eventually, on one run, I fell. And that was that. Symptoms onset almost immediately. Neck pain, pain radiating down arms, muscles losing strength. Spinal cord beginning to get really messed up. Sometimes "screaming" pain.
3 months later I was operated on. Anterior Cerfival Fusion. They went in through the front of the neck, removed the disc, replaced it with a fine metal "cage" with a sponge inside. Also, bolted the 2 vertebrae together with a metal plate. The "sponge" was injected with Stem Cells that instructed my body to "build" bone in that spot.
So now....? The doctor was clear. That "spot" was stronger that it ever was before. My muscles, after about 7 months, returned to normal. And I have no "after-effects". Asked Doc if I should "take it easy now". He, emphatically stated "no". He said that I should continue to train hard and even skydive if I wanted to. There was no risk of re-injuring that particular spot since it was "stronger than before".
Who knows what will happen with Peyton. But, judging from my own experience...if I had to place a bet, my money would be on him returning.
Hope this helps paint a clearer picture of a murky situation. Cheers....
