Number one, I'm a diehard Tech fan and watched Vick play nearly every game at Tech and watched about 10 when he was in High School and Warwick in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.

Vick has unbelievable talent, throws an excellent ball, and has excellent feet and no question, his arm strength is incredible. I was kind of amused how some of the media guys during the draft actually attempted to question this kids arm strength. That's when I knew they were fishing for anything. The guy arguably had THE STRONGEST ARM in college football.

Although he did well, his talent was suppressed at VT. Michael Vick had a much better and different OC than his brother Marcus. The current OC there had a website put out to fire him after the Miami and FSU losses in which he was clearly outcoached and schooled by the DC's in both games. He has a history of being to conservative, and the pass routes at Virginia Tech are notoriously horrible with the OC, and he's likely got one more year at VT and he hopefully will be fired. Vick had poor passing situations in which he was put, VT runs few screens or misdirection if any, and this put Vick into several third and longs, and on third down, the OC at Tech ran few short routes or outlets for which Vick to throw, and added to that he only rolled Vick out of the pocket allowing him to use his feet 10 times all season. Of course, defensively, VT may have the best DC in America.

Vick will make this team, I have no question, and he will be in the running to start at QB for Miami within about 2 years. He is that talented. Of course, no question he has been in trouble, and he needs some Veterans to give him a good right overhand or two when he messes up, in order to keep him in line. Bottom line, I don't know if some Dolphin fans realize how talented this guy is and do to having a very poor offensive coordinator at Tech, his talent was largely hidden.

Just for the record. There are two camps in Blacksburg. One camp who loves the OC regardless of his 4 years of offenses averaging in the mid 50's, and one group who wants the guy fired do to just the above. Offenses ranked in the 50's over a 4 year period in which he has been there, and considering the talent there, so any future messages by some Hokies who will try to spin the story on Stinespring is not to be trusted because his record, offensive output, and the numbers don't lie.

Nice first post. :welcome:

Vick strongest arm? I highly doubt that. Outcoached? We just got rid of our OC and DC. you guys got outplayed by better athletes. How many times do we hear that guy was a tremendous talent in collegeand it just didnt pan out in the nfl? alot.

I am a sophmore here at Virginia Tech and an avid football fan. I will back the post above 100%, could not of said it better myself.

yo, outstanding first post bro...i live in VA, and have watched both Vicks since high school, and believe marcus has a more natural throwingmechanic, but not a slithery as his bro.

if he keeps his head on str8, then we have something here...and all it took was an open minded coach, and staff taking a risk that really doesnt have a down side (unless he goes postal or something,lol)..

I wouldn't be surprised if he was no longer a Dolphin come Monday.

From Scouts, Inc. (who gave him a grade of 44 out of 100):

Strengths: Is a mobile quarterback with good agility and speed. He is a threat to run and shows some elusiveness in the open field. Also buys himself a lot of time in the pocket because of his pocket presence and quick feet. He shows good arm strength. Gets adequate zip on the deep out-route and can make all the NFL throws. He continues to improve as a passer. Shows adequate touch and timing, especially on underneath routes. Can throw on the run with good efficiency. Also has some upside as a wide receiver, running back and/or return specialist in the NFL.

Weaknesses: Is immature and has major character concerns. He has shown an inability to handle pressure-cooker type situations on the field, he seems to have anger management issues, and he has several off-the-field issues. As a player, Vick lacks ideal height and will have far more trouble finding windows as a pocket passer in the NFL. For the most part, he has been more efficient when throwing from outside the pocket than he has been when forced to throw from inside the pocket. He struggles to protect the football lost four of nine fumbles in 2005. He is an improving passer, but he still is too streaky and will lose the "strike zone" too frequently. He forces too many throws under pressure and he will start to lose his mechanics and throw off his back foot if the opponent gets consistent pressure on him during a game. He has good mobility and good arm strength, but does not possess elite qualities in either of those areas like his big brother Michael.

It's not his physical attributes that concern people. It's his decision making. If he's anything like his brother he will be a career backup at best (as his brother should be).

I've been quiet about this topic, but......... You are 100% right. I live in VA now, and I've had to watch nearly every VT game. The kid is Amazing talent wise. Remember the talks a couple years ago how he was a waaaaay better passes than his brother, and he was just as athletic. I even remember Mike Vick saying that his little brother was about as fast as him, and was probably a better overall passer
