Number one, I'm a diehard Tech fan and watched Vick play nearly every game at Tech and watched about 10 when he was in High School and Warwick in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.
Vick has unbelievable talent, throws an excellent ball, and has excellent feet and no question, his arm strength is incredible. I was kind of amused how some of the media guys during the draft actually attempted to question this kids arm strength. That's when I knew they were fishing for anything. The guy arguably had THE STRONGEST ARM in college football.
Although he did well, his talent was suppressed at VT. Michael Vick had a much better and different OC than his brother Marcus. The current OC there had a website put out to fire him after the Miami and FSU losses in which he was clearly outcoached and schooled by the DC's in both games. He has a history of being to conservative, and the pass routes at Virginia Tech are notoriously horrible with the OC, and he's likely got one more year at VT and he hopefully will be fired. Vick had poor passing situations in which he was put, VT runs few screens or misdirection if any, and this put Vick into several third and longs, and on third down, the OC at Tech ran few short routes or outlets for which Vick to throw, and added to that he only rolled Vick out of the pocket allowing him to use his feet 10 times all season. Of course, defensively, VT may have the best DC in America.
Vick will make this team, I have no question, and he will be in the running to start at QB for Miami within about 2 years. He is that talented. Of course, no question he has been in trouble, and he needs some Veterans to give him a good right overhand or two when he messes up, in order to keep him in line. Bottom line, I don't know if some Dolphin fans realize how talented this guy is and do to having a very poor offensive coordinator at Tech, his talent was largely hidden.
Just for the record. There are two camps in Blacksburg. One camp who loves the OC regardless of his 4 years of offenses averaging in the mid 50's, and one group who wants the guy fired do to just the above. Offenses ranked in the 50's over a 4 year period in which he has been there, and considering the talent there, so any future messages by some Hokies who will try to spin the story on Stinespring is not to be trusted because his record, offensive output, and the numbers don't lie.
