Johnny Football? Brady Quinn? Felix Jones?

The recent history of the No. 22 overall pick isn’t pretty, and the Miami Dolphins are next up to attempt to overcome this troubling trend.
Miami is coming off a 10-win season and the team is in a good position to land a quality prospect late in the first round. However, the Dolphins' draft slot hasn't been fruitful for NFL teams for most of the past decade.
Let’s take a look at the past 10 years of the No. 22 overall pick and how things panned out.

Desmond Trufant and Demaryius Thomas don't look so bad. just stay away from QB at No. 22 and we're fine (Rex Grossman, J.P. Losman, Brady Quinn, Brandon Weeden, Johnny Manziel were all the 22nd pick).

don't overthink it. grab the guy who's rated 22 or above as your BPA. Don't draft for need, unless BPA and need match up.

What about if BPA is a WR?

Every year is different. There should be quite a bit of talent for Miami to choose from. It's a matter of making the right choice. I could see the Dolphins reaching a bit for a defensive end if those top guys go off the board quickly instead of say landing a starting caliber linebacker like a Jarrad Davis.

The only way i even sniff a receiver is if there is a slam dunk true number 1 baller, Amari Cooper type stud. No way a receiver of that stock falls to 22 unless a large flag comes up and then i pass making point moot. For an example last year, no way L. Tunsil drops to 22 even with that last minute bong vid. Tou keep options open for bpa but streamline that to needs wherever possible.

if the second guy on your list is a linebacker... I think you take the linebacker. Also, with landry looking for number 1 money, and parker being unproven, and stills being a good number 2.... I think you could make an argument for drafting a WR, and trading landry.

This is the silliest kind of clickbaity story. Pick numbers are not cursed. Dolphins receivers who wears #19 are not automatically doomed. Dudes named "Trevor" are not always assholes.

I hate guff like this

I really believe that LB is not a priority in that we're are going to be heavily based out of the Nickel next season. I see secondary defenders (S, CB, S/LB hybrid) as the primary targets with DE in consideration if a good one falls. I don't think G, LB, and other positions will match up with our desired needs regardless of BPA.

Yes, I went there. In the 18 - 24 range you'll find Ramzck (OT), Ross (WR), Njoku (TE), Williams (WR), Humphrey (CB), McDowell (DL), Charlton (DL)...what happens if #22 comes around and either Ross, Njoku, or Williams is there as BPA. Do you draft him, or do you draft for need in that situation? :bobdole: :bobdole::bobdole:

Need and BPA are synonymous. They are never separate strategies.

That is not true to the point where it could be called false. Only in certain situations is this true...again, if Ross, Williams, or Njoku are the next three in line for BPA....this doesn't make them a "need".
