The CC is looking at whether the kick-offs should be moved to the 35 and the touch-back yardage be moved out to the 25. Thus increasing the chances of touchbacks and shortening the field to 75 yards instead of 80.
Rich McKay who is the presiding member of the leagues CC told reporters today VIA a conference call that the league is trying to find new ways to protect the players (the same ones suing them) from injuries that are increasing in kick-offs and returns. The idea is that more returners would be encouraged to stay in the end-zone and accept the 25 yard start line as opposed to running the ball out and ending up shy of the 20.
Hardly exciting and it seems to me that they may as well do away with kick-offs all together and just hand the ball over to the opposing team while they wear bubble wrap. O.k. in reality, I understand protecting the players but this is a bit much for me. Helmet to helmet? Yeah, got it, on board 100 percent. Encouraging returners to stay in the end-zone? How exciting is that? Of course this completely helps the Dolphins since they need a return guy. If this passes, I can actually shag balls and take a knee in the end-zone and the league can pay me the league minimum to just that. Now all they have to do is find someone to fair catch punts (or catch them and run to the sidelines). See Ted Ginn saw the future of what the kicking game would become, and hear I thought he was scared.

This is pretty ridiculous. Soon, it will be pro bowl rules. Ok guys, no blitzing. Don't want anybody to get hurt. Last time I looked, you had to have special teams to be a well rounded team. This would make it irrelevant. Hate it.

****in' A NFL... this crap is just getting ridiculous. Why don't you go a head and make the NFL a coed league with flags.

IT'S A VIOLENT MAN'S GAME.

It is a violent game but players are getting bigger, stronger, faster every year. They need to do something to protect players. I would hate to see less KOR's but I understand why they would explore this option.

So you do dress up in women's clothing.

I hope you get the opportunity to meet and speak to retired players that can barely walk at this stage of their lives. You'd have a different viewpoint if that was the case. No one is asking the NFL tot ake away hitting but when they can protect players a bit from extra pounding it's a good thing for those guys performing for us.

Now your pulling the sympathy card?

None here for athletes making millions of dollars playing a kids game. They can "walk" away when ever they want.

They make millions, that means they shouldn't be able to walk when their careers are over?

Talk to some retirees from any physical job. If they're out in the elements it takes a toll on their bodies. The biggest difference is $. That's why I have a hard time giving sympathy for them.

Thats right, every former NFL player is bound to a Hover Round when their careers are over.

There aren't many physical jobs like the NFL and in most lines of work they take safety of their employees seriously. The NFL has a chance to alter some rules to help increase the safety of their players- that's a good thing and a smart thing. Players aren't getting smaller and the injuries will only continue to rise, it's wise to be proactive in regards to player safety.

W/ all that said it is asinine to want to increase the # of games to 18. You cannot want to talk about safety then make players play 2 more games per year when they can barely get through 16 reg season games.

I agree with that BUT imo your taking away the appeal from the game. I understand what your saying if they wanted to go to a 18 game season. If you ask me let's keep the 16 game season and stick with the rules we have. If changes keeps being made to protect these players then people will start losing interest in the game. Football is Americas sport. We americans love violence. Take the violence out then interest will steadily fade away. These players understand what comes with the money. Everything has consequences and if they can't handle it then they don't play.

Violence will never be taken out of the game but removing some could extend careers and lives and make the game better. Some day we'll just be watching 3rd and 4th string guys b/c all the good players are injured.

I completely understand what your saying but it will continue to be more protective and harder to understand the rules for newer fans of the game. Its start of the end of the NFL.

Agreed.

Are these rule changes away of avoiding or preventing payment for health benefits specifically concussions/brain trauma?
