The Dolphins know they didn't beat the Patriots' varsity on Sunday at Gillette Stadium, but is there anyone who doesn't think Miami -- a winner of an AFC-best six in a row to end the season -- will be a team to be reckoned with in 2006?

In his first season in South Florida, head coach Nick Saban executed an impressive identity transplant on his Dolphins (9-7). Not long ago, Miami was known for wilting in December and January and consistently froze up in cold weather.

The Dolphins now reflect Saban's mental toughness and his resiliency. And that was the first critical step that Saban faced in his rebuilding job in Miami.

Here's the statistic of the week: The Patriots' loss to Miami represents the first game of any kind they've dropped after Christmas since the 1999 season, head coach Pete Carroll's final year of employment in Foxboro.

Miami sent a message to the Pats today. We can come to Foxborough and beat you guys.

But they did drop one to Miami last November., and with a rag tag team and temporary coach............a date to remember...........

One point that was noted after Miami's first TD, was that it was the 1st TD by an opponent at Gillett Stadium in 24 Offensive possesions...

that was since Nov 20th...

No statement was sent. The game became anti-climactic the second the Pats took the 1st string out. That said, I thought the 1st string v. 1st string matchup the 1st three series was a good battle; I would've liked to have seen more, but Belichick obviously believes in Phil Simms' "health > momentum" dictum.

Got to solve the QB situation before the Fins will be a considerable threat for the Super Bowl though (that is the goal, not just winning the division), and that could take some time - maybe even beyond 2006.

Here's hoping they address the QB thing now. We've only been waiting on that for several years now...:fire:

Nice read, this team has sent out a message to the NFL: Watch out for the Fins in 2006.

Yeah, I think the Dolphins management has to get a QB the fans can get excited about coming into next season. Because the home atendance is really low, and a 9-7 season with no playoffs isn't going to bring that many fair weather fans back. We all know that business is all about money and the NFL is a business.

You can't say Ty Law was a difference-making free-agent signing for the Jets this season, but he did tie Cincinnati's Deltha O'Neal for the league lead in interceptions with 10, which is a career high for the former Patriots cornerback. Law had three picks of Buffalo's Kelly Holcomb on Sunday, and it proves this much: Teams aren't afraid of throwing in his direction any more.

I wish we had signed Law. Would've been better than keeping Howard.
