Getting beyond the catastrophe on the field and the coaches who have put together one of the most boring, flat, and unenjoyable Dolphin teams I have ever rooted for... there is an obvious problem with talent evaluation on this team.

Positions of need are not recognized as positions of need. The Dolphins collectively (because I am confused as to who is responsible), ignored the glaring needs on the offensive line, interior linebacker, and secondary.

Not only did we ignore these positions in the draft, but the players drafted are not put into games. Why was Greg Jennings starting over DeVante Parker today when Jennings played like crap last week? Why was Jordan Phillips inactive last week? Why was Ajayi put on short term IR when he could have been back a lot sooner and is the type of running back we could use?

Jordan Phillips might end up being a good player for the Dolphins (or more probable, another team), but why draft a guy in the second round and ignore glaring needs if you are barely going to use him?

There is an issue identifying and correcting holes on this team.. There is an issue getting the right guys in the game at the right time.

Does this all fall on Hickey's lap? WHAT exactly is Tannenbaum's role? We have heard ton of hypothetical horror stories with Tannenbaum, but so far, what exactly has he done? To my knowledge, he helped the Suh deal through. He obviously hasn't been involved with coaching changes, nothing has changed. He was in contact with Rosenhaus about Evan Mathis, but we never signed him. So what exactly has Tannenbaum done on this team and what is he responsible for? All I hear is that he will ruin any chance of a good coach coming to Miami, but what proof do we have that he even has that much power?
WHAT HAS HE DONE?

As this team crumbles, people need to be held accountable. Stevie Wonder can see the coaching issues and who is responsible. But who is responsible for not only the personnel, but the lack of addressing serious positions of concern?

Can we blame this entirely on Hickey? Do we know if Hickey has final say on the roster?

Who is responsible for this disaster of personnel decisions this offseason and the ones going into the season?

Why put so much resources into one position DT in free agency and the draft? Sheer ignorance

Hickey should go along with the rest of them, but IMO, I think that Philbin has been really screwing up some of these personnel decisions. Even dating back to the Vontae trade it was pretty apparent Philbin wanted him gone.. He seems to love to ship people out of town, yet has no plan to replace them.

The Dolphins came really close to shipping Rishard Matthews out for a bag of peanuts, they had no clue he was a potential playmaker. Did we really need the 7th round pick for Will Davis? With our secondary woes, we coulda thrown him in. He sure looked good on the Ravens, although who doesn't look better out of Coyle's defense.
The talent evaluation on this team really scares me. Ross is Mr. Magoo if he doesn't see he needs to cut this whole staff.

Absolutely nailed it. You optimize for the whole team, not for a single position. How many years will we be in cap hell over this contract?

He is a sleeper agent sent by the Jets to **** this team. And he has done so.

This is the best post of the day.....finally someone points out the real problem on this team......all I hear is fire the coach, fire Coyle, put so and so on the field, Tanny isn't the problem, Tanny is the problem etc etc etc.....the problem is lets find out who is making the player personnel decisions, this team is an 8-8 team if its coached well, so firing Philbin may make some of you happy and some will be able to sleep better at night but it will do nothing about getting this team to the playoffs.....whose decision was it not to offer Skrine a contract so he could play beside Grimes, who made the decision to give a DT a Quarterback contract when you have zero starting LB? who felt it was ok to go into the season with this OL.....who made the decision that Clay was either or with Cameron instead of lets get them both? Who felt taking 10 TD away at the WR position and replacing it with an old man and young one trick pony....this roster is a mess, the talent level is the worst in the east....we had more talent than Buffalo and the Jets two yrs ago and now its not even close, we have the least amount of talent by far.........once we get the answer to those questions then we can talk about if that person should have a job or not, then move on to the coaching staff, changing the staff right now does nothing but put us back in the position 4 yrs from now.....no coach will get this roster to the playoffs....

That is a good post. Can't say the same for your's because the answers to all his questions are in his post. Non stop Poor coaching decisions, poor player evaluation and the same cycle of hype during off season and dump during the regular season that we've had 7 year's straight.

Thanks..

I believe the Dolphins did offer Skrine a contract and he chose the Jets over the Dolphins. The Dolphins also offered Mathis a contract and he chose Denver over the Dolphins. How aggressive they were remains to be seen. If they can land the hottest free agent in Suh, you would imagine they could make Skrine and Mathis feel a little more wanted (and more importantly, needed) on this team.

I understand money talks, BS walks, but we have a lot of funds allocated in the wrong places. If Skrine and/or Mathis end up being solid starters for us, there are contracts galore for us to terminate.

If anyone thinks Hickey should be gone the that person knows exactly what's going on between Hickey,Tannebum,Philbin and Ross....There's no way anybody knows except them 4.

I can't see how anyone would take any role with this team...They would be setup for Failure!

how about this .. we really suck .. like bottom 5 in the league suck. Do you really need to elaborate more than that?

I don't see how any confident, competent head Coach would want to work for an owner that has press conferences like Ross does.

He will have to hire someone who lacks confidence or experience

Whoever he hires will not have enough control to actually make much of a difference.

brilliant observation, way to add to the topic. did you even read/comprehend what we are talking about?

Good point. Or an up and comer who is confident they can fix this mess. Bowles would have jumped on coaching this team. Even though he is not an up and comer, Rex Ryan would have loved to coach this team, too. Despite the owner issues, both of those coaches (who both seem solid) would have coached the Dolphins if they were given the shot. Ross chose to stick with Philbin.

The question is... Is there another up and comer or disgruntled good coach available this year? And if so, can Ross identify and land him?

I love how some people want Tannenbaum to skate right through this debacle. So despite his all powerful role with the team he has no influence on their performance this year? Wasn't he a chief adviser to Ross last year when it was decided to extend Philbin? He's a snake oil salesmen and you all better pray he doesn't continue to have Ross sold. It amuses me that he's secured the most powerful position in this organization by selling the powers of individualized recovery drinks. He literally is a snake oil salesman.

I do believe there have been some very smart acquisitions of talent over the last 2 years and I lay that on Hickey's feet. This is a broken, incomplete roster though and Hickey is not free of blame from that, but I think the bulk of responsibility has to rest on one of the worst coaching staffs in the history of this league. A quality coaching staff working in concert with a keen eye for talent like Hickey would be the best case scenario even if it's a long shot.
