Call me crazy but I'm starting to believe that Philbin and Ireland actually have a plan and here's what i'm thinking it is\was

I think Flynn was the original QB target all along. I think this was discussed in their initial meetings with Philbin and a big part of the reason why they hired him. He had intimate knowledge of Flynn and I believe sold the front office on going after him long ago. He know that signing him wouldn't be a problem as he wasn't a highly touted QB

I think they had a meeting with Marshall and explained the new offensive philosophy , Marshall found it offensive and the break up started there. They don't have the funds to sign Flynn, shore up the line with a RT, sign a slot corner and replace Marshall with one of the top WR available so they decided to address the WR postion in the draft. ALA Jennings and Jordy Nelson. From all I've read this is a deep WR class.

Manning sort of threw a monkey wrench in the original plan as the owner wants to sells tickets and signing manning would surely do that, so I think they had to go after manning once he became available but had a pretty good idea he wasn't going to come here. ass

They still need to address the pass rushing issue that they're trying to do with anderson, if they don't land him I expect them to draft one.

So in my opinion they're working their plan and I fully expect them to draft a couple of WR and a pass rusher. What do you guys think?

It was Flynn all the way... gottta at least try to get a HOF'er if he's available. Due diligence, right?

yea this is what I'm thinking. I'm not a conspiracy theorist but it even seems like Ross tries to do what he thinks we the fans want him to do. Example, he flirted with harbaugh because he knew the fans were tired of Sparano's crap. He went after Jeff Fisher because he know most fans wanted him, and he went after manning for the same reasons.

I think that this is a new philisophy coming in. The Packers are a great team to model. Don't throw around big money, get reasonabley priced FA's, and build a team through the draft, year after year. We could go all in and try to win now, but that's not how this is going to work. If you build steadily, I think it will help team chemistry, and it'll not be so expensive. We resigned Soliai, made offers to others, and dint fight when they left. We also have 2 third rounders, which can be bargaining chips, or for more picks.
I believe this was an issue with bringing Philbin in. He knows how to be successful with it. And if Ireland isn't to prideful, they can make this work together.

Have the Packers even signed one FA in the last 2-3 years?

I believed it until today. If that was the plan, they would not have let Flynn walk out the door. I think they blew it. I am not as confident in Philbin as I was this morning. I don't think he has any leverage with Ireland or Ross. If he wanted Flynn, he needed to get him today.

we knew when we brought in philbin that it was a package deal with matt flynn.

Bro Flynn is suppose to be there today and tomorrow. Keep the faith. A lot of people think that Philbin has the pull to make this happen, however he is a first year coach and Mr. Ross and Ireland are making the calls here.

They got him in and did a physical. The rest is just negotiation. They've seen enough of him to know what he's worth. If his agent insist on Kolb money i don't think we'll have a deal. Ireland seldom over pays. We'll know by Monday for sure.

That plan makes sense as long as the second part of the plan is to meet SF with Manning and Harbaugh in the Super Bowl and beat the piss out of them..... LOL (if Manning signs there which I hope he does because I don't want Ross sniffing around Tebow if Manning goes to Denver)

we all know that ross wanting manning until manninng said he was str8, but i do feeel like philben wanteed flynn all the long beacuse if he didnt theen we wouldnt be trying to sign flyy, we wouldve just waited for the draft

The plan is to draft the offense thru the draft and plug in the holes with FA on Defense and Offense where draft is weak.

I also think Philbin wanted Matt Flynn and maybe Ross wanted Manning largely to show he could get a big fish and for ticket sales. Ross has yet to understand that building a winning team though the draft and staying under the cap is the best way to see season tickets.

I'd feel better as a fan during the off season to see us resigning some of those great players that we drafted a couple of years ago over us paying too much for some other team's problem child. If for no other reason that I have their jersey.....

P.S. The way to build a winning football team (or any team) is to find the talent, acquire the talent, coach and improve the talent and then to keep the talent.
