I have to vent in here bc I am surrounded by Bama fans at work that are starting to get ticked at me.

Bama fans here at my office and around the state are being insanely hypocritical when it comes to the Saban coaching soap opera. Several years ago, a man named Dennis Franchione left the Crimson Tide to go coach in Texas. It was an abrupt departure much like Sabans. The fans went ape and on and on about the man being a traitor, gutless, spineless, void of moral character etc. They said it wasn’t about the money it’s about the principle of the matter.

Since Nick Saban bolted from the Dolphins, I have had to listen to person after person defend Sabans move as “It’s just business†“Coaches lie and we should expect that.†“He didn’t lie, he believed he wasn’t leaving at the time he said what he did. But now he changed his mind.†“Everyone just hates us because we are going to be good again.†“I can’t believe the press is raking Saban over the coals, he did nothing wrong.â€Â

Bama fans also sound a lot like we did two years ago when we landed Saban, “We are going back the top of the SEC†“Everyone thinks we are a has been college team but now we have Saban.†“Saban will bring us a National Championship.†“With the talent we have on this team we should be a contender soon.†Bla blab bla.

The one good thing I can say about Bama, with Sabans name, their recruiting should be better and the don’t have to worry about selling seats. He probably is already making back his salary for them.

Saban may be the answer for Bama. I want the team to be successful. But what frustrates me is this double standard. What kind of message is this sending to those colleg kids? Let me guess, “Your word is only as good as the money you are paid to keep it.

Ask them who they like to be their coach in 2009.

Weren't they contenders under Shula?

SirDrums,

I feel your pain. I live in Birmingham and work with about 70% Bama grads. I am representing the Dolphins fans in this office. Productivity in this state probably pulled to a standstill for the last two days. Its kind of sad that guys around here are saying things like "this is the best day of my life". I'm not much of a Bama fan, although i did pull for them b/c Shula was there (plus the Wanny years had me watching a little more college and a little less pro).

Bama is a brutal program. If Saban doesn't succeed immediately, they're going to want his head. They're a win immediately, win now mentality.

the funny thing is saban will get all the credit for next season in bama when shula did all the recruiting... They are a young team, and a lot of starters are coming back.

 It's not surprising that Don Shula is so furious and disappointed, both in Saban and in Alabama.

They've already lost alot of thier top commitments this year.

Shula had his time to win and, didn't.

Saban won't either.

In his defense they were on probation since 02.

Why was Alabama on probation in 2002? Hmmm. Could it be those Alabama boosters? I'm sure Don and Mike Shula could tell you all about them. They'll probably be handing out stacks of cash and helping the athlete's parents buy cars and all that every year. Saban better be worried about those guys. He's going to have a helluva time keeping those guys in line. Saban doesn't like not being in control. He better start facing the reality in Alabama ... keeping the boosters in line is a lot like "herding cats" like they say about the U.S. Senate.

They have lost only one commitment and I wouldn't call him a top one.

Who do you want to get the credit? Shula certainly couldn't win with them.

0-19 after 3 quarters. That is almost unbelievable

CNS did have the #1 recruiting class in the country twice while at LSU. Recruiting is not a worry for Alabama fans
