I have to vent in here bc I am surrounded by Bama fans at work that are starting to get ticked at me.
Bama fans here at my office and around the state are being insanely hypocritical when it comes to the Saban coaching soap opera. Several years ago, a man named Dennis Franchione left the Crimson Tide to go coach in Texas. It was an abrupt departure much like Sabans. The fans went ape and on and on about the man being a traitor, gutless, spineless, void of moral character etc. They said it wasn’t about the money it’s about the principle of the matter.
Since Nick Saban bolted from the Dolphins, I have had to listen to person after person defend Sabans move as “It’s just business†“Coaches lie and we should expect that.†“He didn’t lie, he believed he wasn’t leaving at the time he said what he did. But now he changed his mind.†“Everyone just hates us because we are going to be good again.†“I can’t believe the press is raking Saban over the coals, he did nothing wrong.â€Â
Bama fans also sound a lot like we did two years ago when we landed Saban, “We are going back the top of the SEC†“Everyone thinks we are a has been college team but now we have Saban.†“Saban will bring us a National Championship.†“With the talent we have on this team we should be a contender soon.†Bla blab bla.
The one good thing I can say about Bama, with Sabans name, their recruiting should be better and the don’t have to worry about selling seats. He probably is already making back his salary for them.
Saban may be the answer for Bama. I want the team to be successful. But what frustrates me is this double standard. What kind of message is this sending to those colleg kids? Let me guess, “Your word is only as good as the money you are paid to keep it.
