Anyone seen footage of Georgia FS Thomas Davis. The guy moves and looks like Louis Oliver. Big hitter, a little stiff on cuts but he does have some speed. He'd be a nice pickup around 20 or so.

Living in the South, I get a chance to see every SEC team play quite a bit. Thomas Davis is the most ferocious hitter I have seen in quite a while. I don't think Georgia had a game where he didn't absolutely knock someone out. His only weakness, and a big one at that, is his coverage ability. He doesn't turn and cover quite as well as he should. You won't find a better run stopper at safety, but his coverage skills do need a bit of tuning.

If we trade with Minny. He's the guy I want at 18.

He would be a great choice at 18.

Taylor- Chester - Bowens/Holliday- Carter

Spragan/Moore- Thomas - Seau

Madison- Howard

T-Buck-Jones - Thomas Davis

I like it.

Louis Oliver is probably more known for his 103 yard INT return for a TD against Buffalo than anything. This was a player who would take your head off. He was a big hitter that was lacking in coverage.

We had the slowest set of safeties in the league with Louis Oliver and Jarvis Williams at one point.

If we did the trade with Minny, Thomas Davis is the exact type of player I think Saban would want. Not that I advocate it, but could you imagine drafting Rolle AND Davis at 7,18? Talk about revamping a secondary.

As it stands, if we could get our hands on Minny's picks, I would be all for best offensive player at 7 and Thomas Davies at 18.

I don't see Davis dropping below the Saints at 16.

Saints signed Dwight Smith and have Jay Bellamy.

IMO they go LB.

If we get thomas who is going to play FS I know Tebucky has experience but clearly his strentgh is playing close to the LOS at SS, and if Thomas has coverage problems he might not be a good idea at FS. If we go DS I want Pool in 2nd/3rd- he can play FS...

They will move Davis to weakside linebacker. Davis is around 230 lbs.

Oliver wasn't slow, he ran in the 4.4s, but he was stiff in the hips.
Jarvis now, he was maybe slower than Sammy Knight.

I agree with you. Taking the best of each would have made for a darn good safety. Oliver's size and pure speed and hitting ability with Jarvis' agility and smarts. I don't know how to get rid of the Gator aspect.

Louis Oliver was highly touted at one point. Bill Walsh was doing color commentary for NBC. When Oliver made a big play in a game early in his career, with Walsh doing the commentary, Walsh specifically said Oliver would "most likely become the best safety in the league."
