In just more than two months, Florida State opens its season against archrival Miami -- without its top defensive tackle from spring practice, possibly its two best linebackers and only experienced quarterback.

June has been a rough month for coach Bobby Bowden's team, which suddenly heads into the 2005 campaign with a growing number of distractions.

Xavier Lee, a redshirt freshman from Daytona Beach, is the only healthy scholarship quarterback at the school. He could be looking at taking his first collegiate snap Sept. 5 when the Hurricanes visit on Labor Day night.

QB - No worries, Xavier Lee is twice the QB Wyatt Sexton is!!!!
DT - Callahan Bright (True Freshman) remember this name!!!!
LB - Sims will be ready by July, A.J. Nicholson is the other OLB, and there is nothing wrong with him.

You're right, there's nothing physically wrong with Nicholson, legally however he got a DUI in which he has a court date this week and with his court date still pending he was drinking at a bar, got kicked out, and ran from police when they went to question him about someone he looked like that had committed a crime, he was subsequently tazered.

Callahan Bright is very far from qualifying, it does not look good, neither with Hardrick, Mincey, and Forster. Don't believe me? Go to a florida state message board and ask any florida state poster what his chances are of qualifying.

I agree that Xavier is better than Wyatt, but not by twice, he's got the physical tools to be better by twice, but it's not knowing the playbook that's going to hurt him and inexperience. I think he will do well vs. Miami but he'll still commit a costly turnover. The interior of the defensive line is what you should be worried about, especially if Bunkley doesn't make the grades, then you'd have 0, i repeat 0 starts among your DT. That's not good for your run defense.

Sorry to say, that Canes will beat the Noles for the 7th time in 6 years. Should be a good game though. I'll be watchin :rocker:

Maybe so, but if we were to lose I wouldn't jump off the bandwagon like so many Cane fans have jumped on since they got off probation. Those five years we were whooping ya'll, and I mean whooping (41-7, 47-0 just to name a couple), about 75% of Cane fans were Gator fans at that time.

C-A-N-E-S CANES!!!

Doesn't really matter at this point. This isn't trash-talk, but UM is probably the better team right now. At least I hope so!

UM will beat FSU but I think Xavier Lee will develop into a good QB and then maybe one day they beat Miami but not when Lee is a freshman

Looks like they could be without Sims for the opener too.

However, knowing Bowden and his stars he'll let him play in that game and just suspend him for some patsy game.
LMAO, what a bunch of sorry asses. Watching them lose to anybody is such a beautiful thing. Bobby Bowden is the Anti-Christ.

Now Sexton is out for the year. Oh man are the Semionles screwed.

shoot... Bowden doesn't think he will miss any game time... "Asked whether a misdemeanor would mean any missed games -- the Sept. 5 opener against Miami comes to mind -- Bowden answered, "Not to me.""

That's a great way to teach young kids how to carry themselves like adults. A misdemeanor means nothing...that's horrible. :shakeno:

And I'm sure there are plenty of Canes in the past few years that got arrested for a misdemeanor and were allowed to play. I don't like that, either.

wyatt sexton out for the season
Tallahassee, FL (Sports Network) - Florida State junior quarterback Wyatt Sexton will miss the entire 2005 season after he was diagnosed with Lyme Disease.

On Thursday, Sexton flew home to Hermitage, PA to consult with Dr. Chandra Swami, who is a well known specialist in the field of Lyme Disease. According to FSU's Sports Information Office, Dr. Swami diagnosed the disease and recommended months of intensive i.v. anti-biotic therapy for Sexton.

"Wyatt has active Lyme Disease that has resulted in neuropsychiatric and cardiovascular deficits," said Dr. Swami. "I have strongly recommended intensive therapy with a goal to obtain an optimal state of health. This should include academics and athletics. He should not be stressed by these two disciplines for now."

Sexton, who emerged from spring practice as an expected starter for the upcoming season, passed for 1,661 yards with eight touchdowns in 10 games for FSU in 2004.

Sexton played in 10 games in 2004, completing 55.2 percent of his passes for 1,661 yards and eight touchdowns. He also had eight interceptions, but completed 55 percent of his passes.

"We have been waiting for the examinations to be completed and a report from the doctors before we made a decision," said head coach Bobby Bowden. "It looks like Wyatt will need several months of treatment and will have to miss the season. We will seek a sixth year of eligibility from the NCAA."

"Xavier (Lee) and Drew (Weatherford) will start out even when we return to practice and we'll have three-and-a half weeks to see if one can separate himself from the other. If not, we will go into the season with two quarterbacks ready to go," added Bowden.

Florida State ended the 2004 campaign with a 9-3 mark.
sucks for him, and puts to rest all the various rumors about him. however, both miami and FSU will be starting virtual "rookies" at QB. that labor day game will be fun for the defenses...
