have you guys notice that there isnt very many fullbacks coming into the nfl like there use to be. did you know that a lot of players are wanting to be pure runningbacks or tight ends. the strange thing is i cant think of three bigtime fullbacks in the nfl . the use of three tight end sets and two rbs may be a optiion or 3 wrs and two te's may be the norm.
when was the last time that we used a 4 wrs set or a a two rb and two te and 1 wr sets ? i cant rember what our basic formations were under saber but i know dave use only 2 wrs and 1 fb and a te or rb but we dont have a identity on offense but the fullback is a declining breed of player . does anyone agree with this assessment or do you think i am wayy off base here ?
i am just currious about the posistion that s all.:ninja:

That coach was sharp. (A saber is a sword get it?)

Anyway there arent many fullbacks that come in but I do think teams still realize they are important. There are a number of solid fullbacks in the league, but they arent touchdown makers (in the sense that they score a lot) so they tend to get looked over.

Football is becoming more of a business and less of a passion. Who wants to play a position where the top tier guys make less than a million a year, average career is like 4 years long, and you take the beating off a lifetime with little respect or glory. The fullback position is a workhorse position, it's for the toughest guys around. And those tough guys are few and far between these days. Someone who would be a great fullback can move out to TE and show off those same talents and triple their paycheck, lengthen their careers, and see their faces on the cover of sports illustrated. It's a shame, but that's how it goes.

Since Cameron used a fullback in San Diego, I have a feeling that we are goiing to be featuring a fullback predominantly in our offense.

More of a OL/TE prototypes most likely. One of those guys who just wasn't big enough to play on the line, but made up for it with great athletics. A pure blocker, I'd like to see us introduce that. I believe Ronnie would be much more effective with some beef clearing the way, as opposed to leaving him alone in that singleback formation.

There are still a lot of teams that use FB's extensively. NE uses Heath Evans a lot, SD uses Neal, etc. I hope either Barnes or Eckel step up and fill that role in Cameron's offense.

Can anyone see Joe Toledo in a massive fullback/TE role? That would be an interesting use of a big body. He certainly has the TE/blocking and ball-handling experience in addition to superb "big-man" athleticism.

theres still a few good ones left, but your right there a dying breed. Teams are getting faster and the need for speed is out reaching the need for 5yds and a cloud of dust. too bad really!:boohoo:

You know i have noticed that but you dont get paid at the fullback post. that is why people just want to be RB or TE i dont under stand why we let go of fred beasly that would have helped a lot may we should be looking for a fullback that would help our running game witch we need

I think Kyle Eckel is highly regarded and with a full training camp could very well be the starting FB.

fullbacks kick a** and having the right one can be huge and a good wepon
