If anyone here is watching the game, does anyone notice the Falcons' technique in fumble recovery piles? I have to say that I've never seen it done so blatantly before but it's a dang good idea.

The Falcons players that are on the very top of the pile just start picking up Eagles players off the pile and just pulling them away from the ball. I've seen two fumble pile-ups now where the Falcons are all doing the same thing ripping Eagle player after player away from the ball action and the Falcons have recovered both balls.

This HAS to be illegal in some way. Talk about something that could easily break down into massive brawls if the other team starts doing the same thing too.

You could see that it was REALLY ticking off the Eagles players in both piles.

Personally, until the refs start cracking down on it or the league makes a ruling on it, I want to see the Dolphins doing the EXACT same thing, just blatantly ripping opponent players off the pile to allow our players that are underneath fighting for the ball to get an advantage in getting the ball. That's tough football. Probably dirty football, but definitely tough.

thats taught when you first strap em on in pop warner, wanting that pigskin more than your opponent. see a ball on the ground fall on it, and everyone else get them off, or help cover you up and shield you from the other guys trying to pry it away from you. hard nosed football, i like it

There's a game on? Just kidding. I noticed that too. It seems effective. I think it's funny when a 325 pound lineman tries to pick up a ball and run with it. Funniest thing in the NFL, besides the Jets getting pummeled.

didnt traylor rumble for a td a few years back, maybe even when he was with new england...that is pretyt funny. its like baywatch, except with big fat guys in spandex, everything jiggling everywhere

For some reason I was always great at recovering fumbles, I guess because I had good awareness and was quick. However, this wasn't even HS football and players get a lot dirtier in higher levels.

some pretty nasty stuff goes on at the bottom of those piles, cant imagine how bad it is in the nfl

yeah. bad stuff happens at the bottom of the piles. people biting eachother, spitting on eachother, squeezing eachothers balls. Clawing eachother. Its bad. If anything the players are doing a good deed by preventing that stuff to go on.

I would think it's holding, but I've just never seen it so blatantly done. Thing is, unless the league makes a ruling on the result of possession with regards to some kind of excessive "pile-pulling" penalty, then if it comes down to letting the other team have it or pulling off players blatantly so that your team ends up with the ball before the refs can award it to the other team, I mean what are the refs going to do? By the time they SEE who has the ball, your team has it. They might see you using illegal tactics pulling players blatantly away from the ball, but if the only time they see the ball is the result your team getting it, the ball is yours so what the heck take the 15 yard personal foul penalty.

I know that stuff LIKE this is generally taught, but this is honestly the first time I have seen it done so blatantly I mean guys are grabbing Eagles players by the collar and yanking them 3 feet off the pile.

Can't be holding, cause the whistle has blown the play dead. It's basically players "helping" their opponents to their feet so the ref can observe possession and spot the ball. It's one of those grey areas until Tag rules otherwise.
