From 3 - 0 to 6 - 10 mark my words. When the season started I thought staying healthy was of top importance because of lack of depth in key areas. The o-line sucked with Sitton, Kilgore and Gray. Now its just atrocious. Swanson can't even snap the ball and will probably get hurt as well given his past. Man its the same story every year with this team. They either just flat out stink or they are half way decent and suffer an abnormal amount of devastating injuries. The glass half full part of me thinks maybe its a blessing in disguise. If we finish in the bottom sixth of the league, perhaps they move on from Tannehill. I was never as low on him as some on this board but was never as high either. If you look at the teams around the league, he is definitely bottom 5. But knowing this regime that will not happen. It will be business as usual and the team will continue to be mired in mediocrity for years to come.
I think the important thing that got lost in the shuffle of the fast 3-0 start is that this is a team still in flux. I don’t care how bad the leadership is, you don’t jettison four pro bowlers off your team and pick up right where you left off. We’re ahead of schedule as a team so far.
You have every right to be disappointed after that loss. It sucked, and the reality is the Aura the Patriots exude at home overwhelmed us again. But there’s no need to jump ship. Teams get smacked in the mouth sometimes, it all depends on how this team responds to it. The Lions got destroyed by the 1-3 Jets in Detroit before ripping the Patriots to shreds. The Vikings were 17 point favorites and got blown out by a lowly Bills team. We got our ass whooped. The team needs to regroup and recognize they still control their own destiny, and use that loss as fuel vs the Bengals.
I think the basement for this team this year is a wholly disappointing 8-8. We still have a rematch at home against the Jets, two games against the Bills, a home rematch vs the Pats, and we still have three games against a vulnerable AFC South. There are tough games on the schedule but many winnable ones as well.
All teams usually have a few games where everything clicks and comes together on a Sunday. Patriots finally had one yesterday. Dolphins will inevitably have a few of these as well this season. I think it speaks volumes that we haven’t had a clean game yet and are still at 3-1.
Gase is frustrating but he’s got more wins than losses so far in his career. If he can squeak out 6 wins out of Old smoking Jay, he can get 10 out of RT. Let’s wait and see the body of work Gase can do this year. A win next week would be impressive and go a long way toward a playoff march. The seasons a war, not one battle.
