Just weeks after NFL commissioner Roger Goodell made public comments saying Miami may be seeing its last Super Bowl for some time, the South Florida Super Bowl Host Committee is set to form a subcommittee to help keep the Super Bowl coming back to South Florida.

Goodell said it's not a question of the city or the area, but rather his complaints center around the 22-year-old Dolphin Stadium. Despite undergoing $250 million in improvement in 2007, the NFL believes the stadium is falling behind the competition.

"The key thing is to make sure the stadium is state of the art and that it can compete with the stadiums in some of these other communities. They are moving to another level in some of these stadiums," Goodell said.

Among the complaints about Dolphin Stadium are the location of lower-level seats and lighting at the stadium. In addition, the luxury boxes are a point of concern for the league for future Super Bowls. Goodell said that with the Marlins planning to leave Dolphin Stadium in a few years the facility could again become a Super Bowl destination, but only with the major improvements.

Still, Miami is facing growing competition from palaces like the new Dallas Cowboys stadium (affectionately known as Jerry-land for Cowboys owner Jerry Jones) which features the largest high-definition television in the world and every luxury a fan could want, plus a retractable roof. The only drawback was the stadium cost more than $1 billion to construct.

During the subcommittee meeting on Thursday, the Miami Dolphins will be asked to give an update on the stadium master planning process.

According to a segment I just saw on channel 4, they're looking into installing a roof and new outdoor bathrooms.

This has been discussed quietly for some time but it will fall on the tax payers to fund a new stadium after they just built one for the Marlins. You know Dade County or the City won't pay for it.

If the NFL really loves playing in Miami, maybe they should defer some of the billions in revenue they make to supplement the funding for upgrades or rebuilds across the league.

I'd hate to see them put a dome on it. Just wouldn't look right considering the location. I'd be all for a retractable roof, though.

im all against a roof at all, i love seeing a muddy, rainy field, and smashmouth football.

the league is becoming a passing league and teams are now taking the whether out of question. now there is no reason to have a balanced offense.

Only reason I'd support the retractable roof is the place is still an oven in September.

I feel for those folks who go to the games early in the season. Florida weather is unforgivingly BRUTAL in those early months of football. I wouldn't be opposed to a roof at all.

Sad. Miami is just falling apart. Stadium is old as hell with crappy renovations (I'm not impressed with the "improvements"), stadium doesn't fill up unless other fans come to town, Miami hasn't BEEN in the Super Bowl since the 80's, haven't won one since the 70's, and the team looks as mediocre as ever.

Sig check.

Who cares where they have the Superbowl?

And the stadium does suck.

Me. I love going to the NFL Experience and although they're not having it this time, I'm hoping they'll have it again in the future. The millions of dollars it brings to the local economy isn't bad either.

If I were Stephen Ross I'd tell Goodell to get over it. The stadium is fine. I agree there should be outdoor restrooms throughout the parking lots however.
