Darren Williams Grade: 2.63 Position: S
Class: Jr
School: Jacksonville St
Conference: Ohio Valley
Ht., Wt.: 6-1, 190
40 Time: 4.63

BIO: Posted 56/3/5 last year, his only season with Jacksonville State. Dismissed from Mississippi State for violating team rules in February 2005.

POSITIVES: Explosive, run-defending safety with skills in zone coverage. Has a good head for the ball, reads the quarterback and remains with assignments. Aggressive tackler who goes for the knockout blow. Quickly breaks to the action.

NEGATIVES: Lacks consistent effort. Likes to showboat and draw attention to himself.

ANALYSIS: A prospect who does not stand out in any single aspect, Williams. best chance to make an NFL roster is on special teams.

Sounds like camp fodder to me, but he does have the size we like... thanks for the link.

Sounds like the type that is good at everything but not great at anything

Those are the best kind, because you know what your getting

This guy was an All-American in high school..

And considered a good player at Mississippi State before he was dismissed. I noticed he was not on the list of signees on Friday, so I am puzzed by the announcement of the school versus him merely being a try-out. Not sure if he is one or the other. He is identified as a sleeper by draftdaddy.com.

The Phins news release suggests he is an invitee not a signed UDFA.

I am not sure we have any roster slots open. We have 74 under contract here in the states, six in Europe, and six draft picks. Unless the draft picks don't count until they actually sign, there is no space for Williams on the roster.

What does it matter signed or unsigned? He'll only stay if he shows Saban he's got what Coach is looking for.

the big difference is that if he is signed he will get a little tolerance to

go onto another camp. The Jacksonville State site could be wrong. The media in Michigan stated Wheeler, OT, was signed when it appears he was invited. Probably a missunderstanding.
