DAVIE — Seeing highlight compilations of NFL players is nothing new. Go on social media after a Dolphins win and you won’t have to search long for plays made by Jay Ajayi or Jarvis Landry.

But a guard?

Dolphins rookie Isaac Asiata has that honor via a six-play clip circulated on Twitter. Perhaps it’s no coincidence that each play shows Asiata carrying out his assignment, both in pass protection and run blocking, including a pancake block and a couple of plays in which he drives his man backward a few yards.

“My mom sent that to me,” said Asiata, who retweeted the clip. “That was pretty cool.”

Gase tried to downplay his run with 1s in practice a few days ago but I have a feeling Asiata will be the starter sooner rather than later.

He got some time with the first team today, I think when pouncey was in there too??

He's at least getting a chance

If he could drop weight (assuming he is near 340) that would help with his conditioning and overall agility I would think, and along with gaining more stamina and experience- he could be even pretty damn decent

I live in SLC, am a life long Ute fanatic, and I've seen Asiata up close and personal for years. When reports early in camp talked about Asiata struggling, I just chuckled to myself.

The only reason this kid wasn't a second round draft pick is due to his age thanks to his LDS mission. You can take this to the bank: This kid won't fail. His talent, integrity, and work ethic simply won't allow for anything but success. I realize he's going through an adjustment period, but we're starting to see him catch up so to speak and I will give my fellow Fin Fans this guarantee: Asiata is absolutely going to make it so we don't have to worry about one of our Guard spots for the next 6-8 years. He's going be rock solid.

I hope he is amazing, but sometimes college doesn't always translate to the NFL. I'm a diehard Seminole fan and would have guaranteed that Aguayo would be a stud kicker and you see how well that is going. Until I see him on an NFL field against NFL talent I will hold all judgement. But great to see him running with the 1's.

In 1998, Jimmy Johnson drafted a big, strong guard with a good pedigree (Michigan State) named Scott Shaw. One of the strongest players in the draft that year if I remember right. I remember hoping he would be plugged in at guard and finally provide some run blocking consistency for the years to come. But he absolutely could not handle the speed and athleticism of NFL defenses and was cut in training camp. That's my glass half empty comparison to Isaac Asiata, but it sounds like Asiata is at least showing something, anything, early on.

You've got a hell of a memory

All I can say is wowww.. Very impressive from a rookie.

The dolphins always find very good players in round 4 to 7 and undrafted players as well. But early rounds, we usually struggle to find quality starters.

Your point is definitely more than fair. I feel so certain about Asiata because when guys have all the physical tools coming out of college, when they fail to make it at the next level, it's usually for 1 of 3 reasons: Injuries, which obviously are somewhat out of a player's hands, personal/off field issues and behavior, and lastly, the simple fact of whether or not the individual loves the game of football to the point where they'll take every step necessary to make themselves and the team better. Listen, Asiata is as good as I've ever seen when it comes to football IQ, a love for the game, a work ethic to match, the physical tools needed, and the fact that he's never going to bring any off field issues to the table. Obviously, injuries are the big wild card here (especially in Miami where nobody seems safe) but (knock on wood), that's the only thing I can see holding him back.

I honestly think this kid is a Pro Bowl Guard by his 2nd/3rd season and he stays there for the majority of his career if he stays healthy.
