Tue, 15 Jan 2008 11:50:59 -0800
The Miami Dolphins named Brian Gaine the assistant director of player personnel Tuesday, Jan. 15.

Is this another scouting guy that Ireland took with him from Dallas? I haven't heard the name before. Maybe someone can give a little more insight?

I haven't heard of him either. This is from the Dolphins website about Brain Gaines.

The Miami Dolphins today named Brian Gaine as their Assistant Director of Player Personnel. He joins the team with nine years of experience in NFL personnel, including the past three as the Dallas Cowboys’ Assistant Director of Pro Scouting, where he worked with both Dolphins Executive Vice President of Football Operations Bill Parcells (2005-06) and General Manager Jeff Ireland (2005-07).

With Dallas, he managed pro scouting operations and the evaluation of players and rosters from the NFL and all other professional leagues. His responsibilities also included advance scouting and directing the Cowboys’ pro scouting database.

Gaine went to the Cowboys after spending a six-year stint with the New York Jets (1999-2004). In his final year there, he served as the team’s Assistant Director of Pro Scouting. From 2001-03 he was a pro scout. Gaine’s first two years with the Jets – both of which he worked with Parcells – were spent as a member of the college scouting department (1999) and the manager of pro player development/NFC (2000).

Gaine started in the NFL as a player, having attended training camps as a tight end with the New York Jets (1996-97), New York Giants (1997) and Kansas City (1998). He spent the 1996 and 1997 seasons on the practice squads of the Jets and Giants, respectively.

Gaine was a four-year letterman at the University of Maine (1992-95), during which time he totaled 74 receptions for 719 yards and six touchdowns from his tight end spot. He served as the Black Bears’ captain his senior season. He earned his degree in public administration from the Orono, Maine school. Gaine grew up in Pearl River, N.Y., and attended Don Bosco Prep High School in Ramsey, N.J.

I remember reading Jerry Jones quote that he was not worried about Ireland leaving because he still has Brian Gaines so cowboys must of like his scouting ability to not worry about losing Ireland.

Thanks a lot for getting that information. I had a hunch that he was one of Ireland's guys. I'm just hoping and praying that we'll have a really good draft this year, as you and every other Phin fan knows, we need it!

Seems he changed his mind. Brian gaine wasn't "stolen" his contract had expired.

i love how we've just raided the entire cowboys organization. jerry jones must be pulling his hair out over there... all these personel losses combined with getting knocked out of the playoffs... poor guy... haha oh well!
