We heard earlier this morning that the Patriots have cut receiver Joey Galloway.

Steve Duemig of WDAE in Tampa tells us that, indeed, Galloway has been released.

Duemig contacted Galloway, who confirmed that he is indeed gone.

Galloway entered the league in 1995 as a first-round pick of the Seahawks. He was traded to the Cowboys in 2000 for two first-round picks after holding out for a large chunk of the 1999 season.

After four years with the Cowboys, Galloway signed with the Buccaneers, where he spent five years.

Galloway signed with the Patriots in the offseason. In three appearances, he caught seven passes for 67 yards.

Because he was cut before the trade deadline, he becomes an unrestricted free agent. He also is entitled to collect the balance of his base salary as termination pay, regardless of whether he signs with a new team.

He got cut and paid and is probably heading to Baltimore....he is to old for us!

can he still run, i wouldn't mind putting him in for a couple of plays if he is faster than the other receivers (excluding ginn)...

Like us rumors are flying in NE, it's rumored they are trying to land Steven Jackson. This from Patsfans.com, nothing repuatble.

I have a bad feeling about this cut. We all know Bellicheck likes to run up the score on opposing teams. What better way to do that than through the air. He already has Moss and Welker and what better way to add more firepower than to add an additional marquee receiver. It would also hurt if it was one of the receivers we are potentially looking at and Bellicheck would love to snag one from under us if that's the case. Supposedly the move was done as part of a reshuffling, but I'll feel better come 4pm

The Pats also released a Tight End... hmmmmm what are they clearing roster space for?
