I would like to see the 30 second limit removed on game days. Things happen so fast in a game that often you answer someones question, then a play happens and you are just kind of stuck in limbo while everyone else is commenting. I know it doesn't seem like much, but 30 seconds when your team just scored can be long. It just seems to be a big annoyance on game threads.

Any thoughts?
 
Removing the 30 second limit could easily bring the site to its knees. I'll look at how the resources are doing the first game... but I'd say that posting every 30 seconds is far superior to having the site go down due to the enourmous hit the MySQL database would take. We've been heavily upgrading the hardware for the past year and a half, however... and we haven't really gotten a large hit like I'm expecting on the first game to try things out.

At this point, I'd say lets wait and see how much of a strain the server is under. I'd also like to re-investigate the possiblity of having a chatroom of some sort implemented, as that is pretty much what the gameday thread becomes.
 
IMO a chat room linked to the main forum would be best for Game Day commentary.Another possibility is the Shoutbox.I am not sure if the shoutbox is also subject to the 30 sec wait period.

Maybe its just me but I find it difficult to keep up with the game commentary threads on the main forum .

I agree! I tried to keep up but by the time I'd click send, ten seconds later there would be 2 or 3 PAGES added.

There used to be a chat room here. What happened? If we need one, even a temporary one, I think CanesPhins would welcome us to his room.
 
Wow, I did not realize this was a hardware/bandwidth issue. I thought it was a parameter that was imposed to limit trolls from making repetitive posts. Then a Chat room would be the way to go.

I am glad to see I am not the only one who has been through this frustration.

i have sent aj 3P and muck a PM to run a chatroom on my server for gameday. if they give me the ok ill get started on it and try have it ready to roll saturday.
 
We had tried to run a chatroom before, with many technical difficulties that caused us to abandon the project. Honestly though, I never did help out with that little venture, and I have a magical way of making stuff work :) I'll see if I can take a look at ways of getting this going. We appreciate the offer for the server, Mindwarp. I'm not sure if we'll need to take you up on it or not, as we might use a free service such as IRC with a web interface. In the event that we do end up having to host the chat backend though, we'll certainly keep your offer in mind.

Give me a day or two to research this, and I'll update you guys with my findings. I agree that it's hard to follow the game day threads, and I'd like to have this up and running before the first regular season game.

coolies i found a good chat prgram and i have it running already. just need to tweek out filtered words and skin it to look like the site.. ill keep working on it JIC. if anything its good for a backup plan.
 
Hey, if you've got something working already MW... I'm not going to bother reinventing the wheel. We should check that out first, to see if it's going to work for us.
 
Sat nights a link to a CHAT ROOM should probably be front and center on the main page.

Send all people there. This site gets enough traffic that from Sat night probably till Monday morning you will have people going in and out of there talking about the upcoming or just finished game
