This IS the pivotal game thus far for the Dolphins. The Bolts are in a must win situation if they want a chance at the post season.

I am convinced this is where Saban and his coaching staff must earn their money. Right here, this game. Everyone knows Shottenhiemer is a crafty veteran coach with considerable talent but has had a tendency to go conservative in big games and lose in the end.

Miami must craft a creative game plan to have any semblence of a chance of winning.

I will be looking for not just the results of this game to judge Saban, but how they perform, play calling, and strategy to take away SD comfort, and how we anticipate their game plan against us.

This is a coaches game IMO. These teams do match up rather closely although SD has the overall advantage, but I believe the pressure is on them which gives us a very good opportunity to take advantage of.

On Offense:

I look for lots of variation in formations with shifts and motion. Running out of spread formations, throwing on early downs, and we have to take shots deep early in order to influence SD out of loading the box against our run.

I would anticipate SD blitzing early and often and a game plan to take away our run placing the game on Ferrotte shoulders - advantage Bolts.

We must get the ball to McMike and force the dbl coverage. This will free up a WR, and allow us to run the ball. Ferrotte is going to have to make quick accurate pre-snap reads and be willing to hit the check down when SD plays cover 2, but challenge down field vs man.

On Defense:

Caution here vs cut back runs, sprint draws, stretch plays. We have been soft on the edges vs runs and SD will force our corners to tackle. We will see a mega dose of LT both running and recieving.

Miami will have to be very selective on down/distance and field position when calling blitzes or risk giving up the long run and big play. Miami must disguise the blitz and must get to Brees early to set the tone and get him to throw the check down.

We should mix coverages dbling the TE with MLB + safety, but this will expose us to man coverage on LT matched against a LB - pick your poison.

This is Sabans and Linehans game to call and I will NOT be looking at the outcome of the game but rather the game plan and preparedness of the team.

Stack the box and challenge Brees. We must stop Ladanian.

what about..

Gates and McCardell?

They will torch our secondary if manned up...

SD has to be anticipating our loading the box and my concern is that they will copy Bills and challenge deep early both to WR and Gates vs our safties.

I would mix defenses.

Show obvious blitz and drop off.
Show cover 2 and blitz.

Continually try to confuse Brees and scheme against our own tendencies...which is to show our blitz early.

Ladanian scares me more than them. You shut down LT2 and you limit their offense. They don't have a WR like Evans. Madison can atleast handle McCardell.

Excellent post. Earlier I had gotten the idea that Linehan never looks at film of the upcoming team. I hope I'm wrong because thats the only way to be fully prepared for the next game. I do think Saban puts a lot of thought to films, at least I hope so.

Double up on Antonio Gates if they play man to man. Make Drew Brees pass to WR's. Must not allow LT to break a lot of tackles. Run blitzes could be used. Do anything they can to shut down the run.

#1 Priority is to stop LT, plain and simple. I'll take my chances with Gates and Keenan.

:-)

You've got to both stop LT and shut down Gates. I'll take my chances w McCardle (sp?).

Just for comparisons sake:
Chris Chambers : 837 Yards 6 Touchdowns (what a game he had last week!)
Keenan: 662 yards 7 Touchdowns

I'd love to see Keenan one on one:) and or Eric Parker:)

Haha, I love your confidence. It's amusing. You're the better type of fellow team poster. I do hope we ruin your playoff hopes this Sunday though (even though that will be very difficult).

i wouldn't even worry about tomlinson. our defense can limit him somewhat on its own. we need to focus on the passing game

my gameplan against SD:

1) Hit big plays early with CC/McMike. If Ferotte can hit some long balls early in the game, they would have to respect the pass game and then we can start the R and R combo.

2) Defense has to stop LT/Brees/Gates. Stuff LT at the line. Keep a safety on Gates at all times and JT and Carter must go get brees in the pocket. He isn't a mobile QB.

3) Special teams i think will be one of the key things. Welker needs to get Miami in good field position and we need to give SD a long field to work with. I think Saban needs to look at the tape of the Eagles dominance of SD's offense. Use the schemes and blitz packages used in that game to give brees and LT difficulty

4) OUT COACH SCHOTTY!!!!:fire: And do not wait till the 4th qtr to put up points. I say put up 10 points in the first, 3-7 the rest of the way in every qtr and Miami can win.

Crowder can cover gates. He has the speed and size.

I am mostly worried about the ground game. With LT's cutbacks our young LB's will have to stay very disciplined.

We're going to have to control the pace of the game. We can NOT get behind early or we have NO chance to win this one. There will be no dramatic comebacks this week. We either jump on them early and outfight them or we lose. Obviously we have to slow Tomlinson down. It will be tough to stop him all together. He is an excellent reciever and a good route runner and we are going to have trouble matching up with him out of the backfield. San Diego is very balanced, so stopping Tomlinson may not be enough. We have to be solid in all aspects of the game. Pressure on Brees will be crucial. If he has a lot of time, we're in trouble. With McCardell, Gates, and Tomlinson, they have a very balanced attack through the air. We have to watch the deep ball and underneath stuff and the crossing patterns that can kill us with yards after the catch. Our defensive line will have to have a big day with pressure and slowing the run so our LBs can roam the middle and slow the medium range passes to the TE and RB out of the backfield.
AS for offense: Mistake free. We can't turn it over. We can't kill ourselves with penalties and, again, we can't play from behind. We have take control, run the ball well, control the pace of the game and take some shots down field. Gus can't be so streaky. He has a knack for completing 8 passes in a row then throwing 5,6,7 straight incompletions. He has to be more consitent, hit the short routes to pull the safeties up, then connect on some plays downfield when we have the opportunities.
