OK, time to get over the Houston loss even though we scored 15 points against the most inept defense in the NFL. Anyway, here is what I think Miami needs to do to have any chance at beating the Patriots in Foxboro next week. I will be at the game supporting the fins.

Offensively
We need to help this struggling O-line and QB out a bit by calling some quick, short confindence building passes. In the first 3 quarters of the Pittsburgh game I was really impressed with the way Culpepper was getting the ball out quickly, sometimes in the face of the blitz. I haven't seen that since after the 4th quarter of the Pittsburgh game. We also can't abandom the running game even if it's not working. If NE makes Miami one dimesional they will just tee off and we will give up about 10 sacks. We need to get Chambers and Booker involved early, especially Booker because the Patriots like to try to take you best player away. By going to Booker early on we will show them Daunte will not be shy about going the other way which should lossen things up for Chambers. Don't get me wrong though we have to do whatever it takes, including moving him around, to get Chris Chambers more involved in this offense. NO TRICK PLAYS, C'mon Malarkey lets see this team consistantly execute some conventional plays before reaching into the bag of tricks. If the offense comes out really flat for the 3rd time in a row, go to the no huddle early. Miami can't afford to fall behind and building an early lead may make NE antsy to throw more.

Defensively
We need to smother the Patriots running game. The Dolphins cannot let Corey Dillon and Laurence Maroney beat them up the way they beat up Cincinnati. That's like giving NE a free pass. Remember Brady is not comfortable with his receivers yet and was having a rough outing in Cincy before the Pats discovered they could run at will vs the Bengals. The fins need to do whatever it takes to make sure that Watson, Graham and RB's in the flats are not singled up on LB's because these are the guys Brady wants to get the ball to. We need to force Tom Brady to make plays with his outside WR's, even if it's against single coverage. We should also put a larger emphasis on dropping people into coverage than blitzing (which I know our coaching staff will not do) on passing downs. I've watched a ton of Pats games (I live in NE) and Brady seems to have a tougher time when there is good coverage downfield than he does getting the ball out of his hand to the open man in the face of a blitz. We should use the blitz as a surprise eliment vs Brady as opposed to him knowing it's coming on every big passing down.

DOes anyone have anything to add???

i like that assessment. new england looked very good against cincy and i'm hoping for a letdown,,one can only hope right? i really agree with running the football, i don't care if ronnie has 36 yards on 25 carries, i want to see him get 25 carries. he's young and strong and he can handle it. if i have to yell at the screen not to blitz on 3rd and 5,6,7, whatever the yardage, i will be very displeased with our ability to adjust a gameplan to fit the opponent...big game, go phins

Easier said than done. To stop Dillon and Maroney your secondary will need to cheat up on the "D" line and that will leave them suspect. The Miami secondary has already proven to be suspect in coverage and they will get exposed. You can try one or the other but I don't see Miami having the personel to take away the run and the pass both. Brady will take what is open for him and he has proven these past two weeks to be a lot more comfortable with those receivers than you think. Bring it on any way you like I'm confident well have an answer to what ever your defense has.

Very good analysis- right on, really. But I'm sure dip**** Mularkey will call a flee-flicker on the first play of the game resulting in Culpepper getting sacked, losing 17 yards.

OH I absolutely agree with you, it will not be easy at all. I think leaving the secondary suspect, at least at first, is the way to go. Letting the Patriots beat you with that newly found running game is making things easy for them. I'd like to see them do it by forcing them to make plays with the guys on the outside. The Pats have nothing close to Andre Johson at WR I think Miami would have a chance to go man to man with their wideouts. Seems like to best bet to me simply becuase Troy Brown, Reche Caldwell and Doug Gabriel scare me a lot less than Corey Dillon and Lorence Maroney (running or in the passing game) Ben Watson (who scares me to death one on one with any of the Miami LB's) and even Daniel Graham does. I'm not saying I think that Brown, Caldwell and Gabriel stink, but you have to agree with me that they are not as scary as the other guys the Pats have and nothing close to what Miami saw in Andre Johnson last week. Probably not even as good as Drew Bennett, Lee Evans or Hines Ward, who Miami has seen in previous weeks. Please tell me that even Pats fans don't wear blinders that are that big.

I think we oughtta script the first 15 plays - stick to them no matter what - and run the no-huddle double-time!

I've always been a fan of coaches who script the first x amount of plays. Does anyone know if we do this???

We must pray!!!
If Mike Murlakey is making the worst job in the league with a regular unit, and our secondary is somehow adjusting and rebuilding after losing asperstar each season for the last two offseasons, i don't see a real way to upset the Patriots this weekend.
Murlakey's so wrong. You have to use tricky plays to increase your system, not as basis for the entire system. When somebody is so hard to read as Murlakey's offenses, our opponents will make the best to press, cover and make pass protection in the same pack. With and outstanding O-Line, Mike should been called genius, but with a regular line, without timming and out of sync, this story is 1-3 after 4 games.
This is going to be a hell of season, but next year we may be a top again.

I got it! Every 1st play from scrimmage...take the deliberate safety! Hey, no sacks, fumbles or int's, right?!

Yes, that Pittsburgh game I was pleased in that these Miami coaches seemed to know that if a team is blitzing you, you go to screens to slow it down -- you don't spend the whole game trying to throw downfield (reference Peyton Manning vs. Steelers in last year's playoffs).

But the Dolphins have done this hardly at all since the Pittsurgh game. I don't get it.

Even with all of Brady's supposed struggles, he managed to bring the Pats back against a good Bills team when they were down 17-7 at the half, walked over the Jets (a team the Colts struggled with) with a 24-0 lead until the Defense let up and gave them 17 unaswered points and then went to Cinncinati and destroyed the 'new kid on the block' Bengals.

Sure, he and the Pats looks like crap against Denver, but the Pats always look that way against Denver.

I think the Fins will play them tough and sort of like Denver, the Fins are in Brady's head, but don't for a moment think Brady is not the QB he once was. In some way, I think he is even better. Not many QB's loose their top 2 WR's and have 2 rookies on the OL and start a season 3-1.
