Games Don't Need a Circus- Cote- Miami Herald

He's right in stating that the Game doesn't need a circus to give real fans a show. On the other hand, the real fans have not been filling up the seats on Sunday and something has to be done about it. I don't know, maybe if the Estefans start showing the Dolphins games in their many resturants, someone who wasn't previously exposed to the team might garner some interest in checking out the team a little further. Maybe the Williams Sisters could wear a Dolphins jersey to one of their events and someone could say, "hey that's a cool jersey, where can I get one?"

Sure real fans don't need a circus but who says this is going to be a circus? Because we have minority owners that are celebrities? If I remember correctly, Danny Thomas was one of the original owners of the Miami Dolphins along with Joe Robbie.

I'll never forgive Wayne Huizenga for not firing Dave Wannstedt when he had ample reason to at the end of the 2003 season.

I always thought putting a circus in the staduim was simply made to give Miami an edge for SuperBowl bids.

Who in their right mind is going to a game to see celebrities? Any fan who cares more about them than the team...shouldn't be there anyway.
That thought doesn't help the team...it only helps fill Ross's pockets.
Lets be real here...where were all these celebrities when the Dolphins were losing? They weren't around when the team went 1-15...so now we should care if one turns up wearing a Dolphins jersey?

Yes...perhaps Danny Thomas was one of the original owners...but you never saw him doing a show while the game was being played. He stayed out of the picture.

Thomas was one of the original owners of the Miami Dolphins, along with Joe Robbie, although he sold his share soon after purchase.

I refuse to read any of the rambling drivel this guy writes...

Does it really matter who owns a 2% stake in the team??? Not to me. Ross is doing what he has to do to try and get some fans to show up. Fans can complain about it, but the fact is they havn't been showing up at the stadium to see the team so you have to do something.

Why do we have all the celebs as minority owners? It is a little tough to find an average joe that has 25 mill in disposible income to throw down just for a 2% stake.

Winning cures everything. When the Dolphins of the late 60's played...they also didn't have full stadiums...when they started to win and win big games...the Orange Bowl was always full...and J.R. didn't have to bring in the circus to fill them. The closest J.R. did was to put a live Dolphin in a swimming tank during the games...and everyone loved that Dolphin! Perahps we can put Gloria and the sisters in a tank also.

OK....so Ross should just sit back and hope things work out and fans show up?

I just want one person to give a VALID reason why it matters who the minority owners are.

I agree with the point that if you win, fans will come... and while the season ticket base may not be up to par with what they want, you have to think that attendance will be solid this year coming off of such a great and unexpected season last year... even if people haven't ponied up for season tickets, I would imagine that individaul game ticket sales would be brisk. And I know that people complain about the heat and what-not (and rightfully so- anyone who has attended a 1:00 game at JRS and sat in the 400's knows you grill like a steak), but there are hardly any 1:00 home games this year- what, 1? 2? So two built-in excuses- a losing team and oppressive heat- are out the window for this year.

Well if the minority owners are willing to jump into the tank and eat fish...I'm all for it!!

I've got an idea to fill the stands with real fans...lower the price. What a novel concept. Put a winning team on the field...we are on our way to that. Don't alienate the true fans with nonsense...got problems in this department.

Ya know what- it really doesnt... if Ross brought in 5 or 6 business-men instead of the celebs, no one would bat an eye. I don't mind him bringing in celebs to have a piece of the team- what bothers me is he seems intent on manufacturing a celebrity atmosphere... that's different from one being fostered naturally, such as what the Lakers have. The thing that made me roll my eyes was the agreement with Ocean Drive Magazine to RECRUIT celebs to come to games. That sounds like you're trying too damn hard, and that's the type of thing that pisses me off.
