That is misleading. The reason why MNF is considered a money-loser for ABC, is because the rest of ABC's shows don't make anything and no one watches them. MNF costs a lot of money to get the rights to and while a ton of people watch it, not enoguh watch the other programs. So instead of spending lots of money on one show that everyone watches, they are consider just spending a little money on a bunch of shows that no one watches. The NFL makes ABC spend a lot of money for the rights.
 
Another issue with MNF is that ABC has considerable trouble filling Monday nights in the spring. Anybody who is interested in watching series TV has already found the shows they want to watch.
 
If MNF were to be shopped around, I think it's true value would be shown when FOX, NBC, and CBS jump on it like a fly on Sh**. Or better yet, like a DB on a Fiedler pass. :lol:
 
They mention ESPN possbily taking over MNF, which would make sense since ABC and ESPN are owned by the same company... Disney, if I'm not mistaken, still owns them both.
 
MNF gets poor ratings because it has to be shown live. Too early on the west coast and too late on the east coast.

ABC pays $500 million for the rights to broadcast MNF. That plus production costs are why it's a big money loser. But they will keep it - it allows them to pimp the rest of their shows. The ratings have nothing to do with the time slot. Somebody with a Nielson box only has to tune in for 1 second for the rating.
 
I'd like to see the NFL network pick up a game maybe MNF which would cause a WHOLE lot of cable companies to pick up NFL network as well. Just an idea
 
In an effort to control its own product the NFL is setting up a satellite system of its own and dont be surprised if the day comes when you no longer will be able to see the NFL on free network TV.When technology improves the bandwidth of internet services I wouldnt be surprised to see all games on a subscription basis on internet similarly to the Field Pass and on Cable and Satellite systems on a Pay-through-your-nose service and that includes MNF.
 
Wait a second, the same league that last week would not let fin fans outside of miami or the nashville are watch the game live because they made a deal not to eat the college football revenue up now want to start having games on there pay channel. This is the begining of the end of football on network tv. Pretty soon in order to see a game you will have to have NFL network (which is not availible where I am) and high speed internet in order to download feild pass. If the NFL is not careful, they are going to start loosing the fan base that makes them the best sport in the world.

What do you mean that would be the best thing ever. You could get all the NFL games like ESPN GAMEPlaN by ordering off the NFL NETWORK plus all cable companies would get the NFL Network This would just elimnate Direct TV from being the only company with rights.
 
If the NFL gets $100 per fan now and finds a way to get $220 per fan by cutting their fanbase in half, they will do it without hesitation. Remember what we are to the NFL -- we're not customers...we're revenue.

By the same token, we're only revenue to the league because they don't have to directly deal with us. If they start selling their product to us directly, they lose that buffer. That could be a win/win proposition for the serious fans...
