Sam Smith of the Chicago tribune is reporting that a 3 way between the Twolves, Suns, and Celtics is serious and he implies its going to get done.

All the particulars aren't established, but the basics are the Suns get Garnett, the Celtics get Shawn Marion and the Timberwolves get the No. 5 pick, the Hawks' unprotected first-round pick for next season, which the Suns hold, the Suns' two firsts this year (No. 24 and 29) and the expiring contracts of Kurt Thomas and Theo Ratliff.

The holdup supposedly has been Marion's reluctance to go to Bostonâ€â€he has an opt-out clause after next season. But this is unlike Garnett's refusal. There's a huge market for Garnett; not so Marion. The Celtics would hold Marion's "Bird contract" rights. They'd be the only team that could realistically make up the $17.8 million Marion would give up if he opts out.

i like this deal for every1 except boston....minnesota will have a brighter future, and suns better get it done next year,

this is something i'd like to see go down

Wow, if this happens I dont know what to think...Thomas and Marion AND all those picks....I guess its worth it...

I know what you should think:

"HOLY **** THIS IS ****ING AWESOME!!!!"

Any deal that leads to the Suns getting KG is a good deal. Any deal that leads to them getting KG without giving up Stoudemire or Nash is a great deal. Marion is a good player; does a lot of things well, works hard on defense, but he's basically a slightly better version of Tayshaun Prince, he's in line to get a massive contract and he's engaged in a constant, if subtle, alpha dog battle with Stoudemire.

Marion's a nice player to have, but you sacrifice him to get a guy like Garnett any day of the week. The Suns would be unstoppable in the low post AND the open court. Plus, they'd finally have someone who can play Duncan, the guy who's kicked them out of the playoffs multiple times.

That is absolutely insane. Wow, what a steal this would be for the Suns. Basically guaranteeing yourself a championship.

Didn't Marion already say he didn't wanna go to the Celts?

Its not really up to him

Its entirely up to him. If he tells the Celtics that he won't sign an extension then the deal is off. Noone would give up the 5th overall pick for a rental.

:yeahthat:

I thought I heard he only has 1 year left on his deal and would refuse to sign an extension with the Celts. They aren't exactly looking for someone to put them over the top at this point.

didnt marion already shoot this down, by saying he will opt out next yr?

Sorry folks, dont think it's gonna happen. Only way any of this happens is a direct trade between Minnesota and Phoenix.
Who needs Boston anyways.

Marrion (I HATE to see him go) and all our first rounders + Kurt Thomas. I could see it happening...
