ESPN's Adam Schefter stated on SportsCenterFriday that David Garrard looked like the leader in the Dolphins' quarterback competition during spring practices.

"The more you hear, the more it sounds like David Garrard has really taken this opportunity to emerge as the favorite to be the starting quarterback down in Miami," said Schefter. "Very impressive, adept, good footwork. Matt Moore's been good, Ryan Tannehill's been good, but David Garrard has looked the most comfortable of any of the quarterbacks." Garrard hasn't played in a West Coast offense like Joe Philbin's since the early 2000s at East Carolina, so it's impressive that he's coming along quickly. We still expect Moore to beat out the 34-year-old, injury-plagued Garrard when contact work starts later this summer.

I said when we signed him I thought he start cuz he was better fit in WCO than Matt Moore and it looks like he's stepping Up. Still very early

It is still early, but apparently Garrard has looked pretty good so far. Will be interesting how he holds up in training camp and the preseason. Moore is apparently one of those "doesn't practice well" kind of quarterbacks so he will get his chance to prove himself in the preseason games.

Based on the offseason workouts I would say Garrard is a slight favorite, but I think it is FAR from being a done deal.

If David ends up being the starter than we will see how much Tannehill has progressed...If Moore ends up getting traded then Miami would be comfortable with him as our starter...If they keep Moore then of course either we could not get spit for him or Miami is just not comfortable with him Tanny as the starter should Garrard go down...

I expect Moore to beat out Garrard tho.

From the practice reports I read from the beat writers, it sounded pretty even between Moore and Garrard. Adam Schefter didnt attend any practices. Garrard looked good the first day, and Moore did the next day. Seems kind of even to me...

I think Gerrard looked better at the early OTAs. Jacksonville DID run some WCO for a year Garrard was there. And while teams have different styles of the offense, the terminology is pretty much the same. I think as Moore has learnt the offense he's looked better, but the big part of the offense is timing passes and that is not one of his strong points. Only negative I've really heard about Tannehill is sometimes he was a little late against the First Team defense, but it sounds like all 3 looked good in shorts and T-Shirts. Now they gotta show it in the pads

imo Garrard gives Miami the highest ceiling for wins so glad to hear he is establishing himself as the frontrunner. They say Moore doesn't practice well, but he doesn't play all that well in games either outside of the occasional gem. If only we could play against Buffalo every week. Tannehill looks like he will take time.

Personally I'm rooting for Tanny cuz I wanna see if he can prove me wrong about his abilities (and I hope he can) but I've always liked Garrard. One of my good buddies is a big Jags fan so I've seen a lot of David Garrard over the course of his career and he can definitely play. Hes actually a lot like Pennington with lots of athleticism IMO.

All Moore's coaches have said that he doesnt practice well but in game time lights come on and he just starts tearin it up.

On top??? That's what she said. :chuckle:

But seriously.....you have two experienced NFL quarterbacks battling it out and a rookie QB who has no NFL experience. I think it is a win-win no matter how things turn out. I don't think Moore has any advantage over Garrard since we have a new system...but Moore has worked with the O-line, WR's and RB's. Let the best man win. I hope all three get plenty of reps in preseason, and Tannehill can soak it all in and be ready when the time comes. :brewskis:

I love the Garrard pick up. I have said since his signing he will be Pennington-like of 2008 this year. He is solid pro, not afraid of the moment, has a chip on his shoulder and has always played effectively without a ton of weapons. Most of all he is a leader. Watch out...

Duh!! If Garrard is healthy that should be > 90% certainty.

C'mon folks ... Obvious if you know a thing or three about football & pay attention ... Garrard who delivers when healthy ... vs. a rook & Moore who is an inaccurate gamer.

Several have been saying a 'healthy Garrard' since he joined the team.

P.S. We will also keep Moore ... haven't had a QB finish the season in quite a while ... OL is not up to snuff no matter what talking heads say.

Yes, this is a "good problem" to have.

And IMO, it would be foolish to trade or release either Moore or Garrard when the season starts. Someone in the Dolphin's front office should know by now that in a QB driven league, it is good to have a couple of decent QBs for the first time in many years.

I thought the press were only allowed to watch like the first ten minutes of OTA's, or were they only allowed to tweet & post during the first ten minues?

Based on their interviews Garrard sure seemed more relaxed and confident, but that doesn't mean diddly.

If Garrard does win out, what happens if he gets injured?

Moore or Tannehil?
